3D Printed Parabolic Diffuser for "Perimeter Style" lights

I know very little about 3D printing. I think it takes hours or days to make a big items. For comparison, to make something like spoons and forks, you can stamp out 5000 pieces in an hour, but to 3D print 5000 pieces takes days or more? So maybe making the light with a 3D printer would take a very long time? And I think 3D printing is very neat.

The mold would cost $10,000 and that is in China. In the US it would probably be $50k. I don’t think he has a choice. Maybe extrusion and electroplating? Still tough financially.

He is the resident ME. He would know better than I do.
