No, I don't work on pool tables, but I've owned and operated a poolroom for 22 years, so I know a thing or two. We also work on and move tables locally, and I've had the same mechanic / installer for 20 years, whom I've helped when he needs it.

Cool, I learn new things all the time. Having resources like, RKC, Jay, Jack, Zach and Josh has surely helped not just me, but, many others. RKC did mention this: k66 cushions do not go on Gold Crowns or Diamonds. Are you getting 4-5 lengths back an forth with a table set up like that?? Curious to know.

Trent to backup what you are saying on learning new things all the time. It is good to hear that ,people need to keep open minds to new ideas.
We have a table mechanic here in NE Ohio, that simply refuses to hear or learn any new info. What he learned in 1965 is what he still does to this day.
I will be contacting you when I need to refelt my table.

Frank, I know that mentality because most guys out there are that way: "I been doin this for 30-40 years" type of guys... I am so happy I never worked with anyone like that and I actually avoid even talking shop with anyone remotely like that.

I learned from STUDYING(videos, books and all the great mechanics I am blessed with that have taught me) and by being out there in the field doing it. It does really makes it harder for people who are trying hard to be current with modern Billiard Mechanics like myself and others I have learned from, to make good money. I do very well for myself and so do the rest of the mechanics. By knowing/ helping customers know the current industry standards and adhering to them, the business will change for the better and everyone will make more money. Those types of guys that would undercut their own brother to make a deal and the work will never be right will eventually be gone. RKC said this in my defense once "This business will dictate who will come and go". He has helped me tremendously and I respect him enormously for all he has done for us all.

I am not saying I am perfect or better than anyone else, what I am saying is that I try very hard to know as much about what I am doing in order to provide the best service I can. With all this technology to help us learn and the base of knowledge created by the true mechanics I mentioned earlier, there is no reason to be that way other than shear ignorance. The Simonis installation DVDS should be a mandatory thing for anyone installing Simonis cloth, yet, 99% of guys out there do it "their way" rather than the manufacturers way. Not trying to be "right" but, I am trying to do things the right way. RKC, Jay, Jack, Zach and Josh are doing things the right way and I am very happy to know some of the right techniques from talking with them and studying their work.

I am a very basic player and lover of the game, I want the tables to play the best they can!

I've known for a long time that Diamond and Gold Crown tables use K55, and virtually all others use K66 profile cushions. Apparently there are some mechanics out there that don't even know that. If I ever have a question as to what the correct profile for a specific make of table we are re-doing the cushions on, I contact one of our suppliers, Ken at Classic Billiards in Maryland, who I consider the expert on that stuff.

Our Gabriel tables all came with K66 Artemis and the three tables that we could not stretch the cushions enough when Ernesto extended the rails and tightened the pockets on, we replaced with new K66 Artemis. So the correct profile cushion rubbers is on all our tables, and yes, we can easily get 4-5 lengths rebound on all our tables.

When my regular installer / mechanic has had to put new cushions on a Brunswick or Gold Crown table, then we order/use the K55 profile Artemis, which is considerably more expensive.

Stretching cushions?? I am not sure at all about any of that, but, I am 100% sure I would NEVER do that. I am sure the cushions are not meant to be stretched an glued like that. To each his own on that. FREE Lesson learned for me on that topic.

You are aware that the Artemis Intercontinental 66 K-55 cushions are not a "glue on" fit to any Brunswick Gold Crown right?? They need a different angle on the subrail to make them play correctly. Ask Diamond/ RKC how they made them play right on the blue label Diamonds.... Brunswick Superspeed are the way to go IMO and if they are older than the 3rd generation GC3, they wont fit exactly, as in they are bigger than what came on the early GC3's and of course the GC1& 2 and will slightly change the size of the table. Never had any complaints using them, but, for the customer who wants it to be as close to "perfect" there are these guys that can perform the subrail modification correctly : RKC, Jay, Jack, Zach and Josh

And for the record, the stretch index, glue down system of installing bed cloths originated with me as well, going back to June 1986....anyone else in this country doing it, is because of me in one way or another!
