I have to say out of all the techniques on doing things ive seen posted gluing bar table rails is the most intriguing. I don't do that many so not a big deal but i always thought the recess on the whole middle section on the back was for staples? Also the reason why ive always felt they rebound i bit clunky.

Jim,

Try the Ridge-back rails that Kerry makes. He has resolved the "thud" problem by using a third ridge down the middle of the rail. They also employ a stronger t nut so the rail is very secure and tight to the rail cap.

Using 3-M 77 to attach the cloth to the "gaps" in the back of the rail makes the job much faster as well as stripping easier. Six rails can be glued up and pulled over the nose in 15 minutes, then just finish your ends and sides with 6-8 staples and your done.

Here is a link that will show the rails. http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=84753&highlight=ridgeback+rails

You may notice in the picture of the covered rails that the staples are only at the ends of the rails, the entire middle section, both top and bottom are glued to the back of the rail.

Glen was very generous in sharing his technique of double gluing rails at the Alsip seminar. I glued and stapled bar-box rails for 35+ years until I saw Glen's double glue system, It's the stone cold nuts! I use it everyday with pleasure. It's really fast as well. Maybe we can talk RKC into a DVD on bar table recovery and service...

That is crazy! When i saw 8 bucks, i took the case off the shelf and spotted another one up in the rack and grabbed that one too! I have a local ace hardware three minutes from my place and they charge 17.95!!!!!!

Are you sure you're not in NorCal?!?? lol I ran into that with Lowe's and Ace Hardware...
Walmart had it in Dallas the other day for $7.88, so I grabbed some, even though I rarely have a use for it, it's still a tough habit to break.lol
I use 3m for pretty much everything, and from what I can tell, they make just about everything we use anyway-including loctite.

I've got a couple of dozen barboxes to do out here for a a couple of different rooms, so maybe I'll try out both ways and see if I can get gluing barbox rails perfected.
I can see how gluing is faster, but I don't do enough bartables to worry about it too much generally, so just try gluing when I have time on my hands to experiment a little bit. Never really liked doing bartables, although they are so quick and easy that I should probably do more of them.
I still don't understand how people put the fold across the from of the rails when they are recovering though.....lol

Shane,

Bar tables pay the highest hourly rate of any service work I do. With good technique and proper set up $75-$100 per working hr. is no problem. I recommend hooking up with your vendors, and your bar rooms that own their tables, it's truly residual income.
