When players say that they ran a 4-pack, is that exclusive to 9-ball or is it used for other games like 8-ball?

I use it for both (no I don't mean I can run it, but I sure do talk about it). The only thing with 8 ball is (or 9 ball if it aplied) the size of the table.

No, you would not use 4 pack for 8 ball..

You would use the term "32 pack". This is just common sense as 8 X 4 = 32. This is the way it used to be referred to in 9 ball too, until everyone realized that 9 ball players ar so simple minded that they had difficulty with 9 x 4 = 36 pack. You know what they say.. Nine ball is a banger's game, as you just point and shoot, no thinking required.

The correct way of referring to 9 ball runs as the numbers of BALLS run versus the number of GAMES run actually came about during the 3rd reconstruction of the temple of the Greek demigod Pan near Lake Titicaca.

The workers were reconstructing the temple on hallowed ground, and had daily exposure to mitichlorion particles due to the presence of Pan, and therefore became very skilled at Lawn Darts, the precursor of modern day billiards. Though, having soaked up some of the arrogance of the Greek gods, they tended to inflate their accomplishments on the lawns near the temple. So, if they ran two racks of lawn darts, they inflated the number by the number of hoops, which was 47 1/2 per rack, which made their run a 95 pack.

I hope this explains everything clearly, as you seem to be a beginner and greatly in need of help with explaining the "simple" things. :D

Let us know the next time you run a "150 pack" in straight pool, or a 24 pack in One Pocket, or a 45 pack in Rotation. Good luck!

Russ, are you the Websters of pool with your adamant "No, you would not use 4 pack for 8 ball"

Many runout players talk about games ran and use the word "PACK" meaning games put together in a package. Thus a pack is a multiple of games where the other player does not get to participate (other than racking). There is no 1 pack. The pack term would start out with a 2 pack, running 2 games. A 4 pack is running out 4 games.

This term is definitly used for 6 ball, 8 ball, 9 ball and 10 ball.

So I do not think tracking ball count is what that is meant by the "PACK" term.

Any player who says I put together a 3 pack when playing either 8 or 9 ball to indicate they ran 3 balls in succession would sound quite foolish.

So I have to say I disagree totally with you on this Russ.

I take it yer not a fan of Star Wars, eh? :D :D :D

And on a side note, I'm gonna have to petition the administrators to include an emote that has JOKE RESPONSE in 3 inch high letters, and in flashing neon colors too, as my references to Lake Titicaca and to "mitichlorion particles" (the things that made Jedi able to use the Force in the Star Wars moves..) went ZOOOOOMMMMMM!..Right over your head..

Russ-Not really amusing. The poster asked about somthing he didn't know the answer to. Why would you basicly make fun of him. Pretty rude!

Haha nah- I realize that there are people out there who are just not very helpful nor considerate of others. Thank you to everyone else for giving me an honest response.

If you insist on stating the facts reguarding ball run and the origination of the terms used today to describe how great we think we are... then please use the correct terms, and factual information. It's metachlorian particles, and you cannot forget Pan's wife Eddith (archie's widow) who first called it a pack, referring to a pack of wolves that would occasionally chase the Lawn Dart players away and eat their pet rabbits... the real reason the players decided to take the game inside. And 9 ball is not a bangers game of pointing and shooting.. It's really a paint by numbers, or color coded game made for those who didn't excel in school. I can't believe the administrators allowed all of this inaccurate information to be posted in the first place...

Bright NEON letters, which may be flashing if the planets are aligned properly: JOKE JOKE JOKE:D

Yes a pack is generally used to describe 9 ball racks. Probably more than 8-ball and 10 ball only because of it's popularity, but can be used to describe any run of racks in any game. No set definition yet. 6 packs are only used to describe beer though.

From where I am from, it means any of the games that you attempt to run racks; 9 ball, 10 ball, 8 ball, etc.
