$42 mcdermott training tool for cut induced throw

I have one for my daughter. She never liked it much. I got better luck letting her shoot with just a shaft. I am considering a jump cue with a soft tip. When I hit a few with that training cue the shock of the impact was really jarring when you hit a ball. I wouldn’t find it insightful for any adult training.

You might get her a Trouble Shooter cue from Seyberts, they're only about $28 and come in multiple sizes. I got one for my room because I have a pole in the way. The weighting on it makes it so much better to play with.

Pretty soon Earl will be using it in tournaments.

I'd like to see someone shoot a spot shot with that thing.

I think it might be useful for first timers to teach fullness of ball hits. I think it will not be useful to teach a proper stroke.

Funny. I made one of these several months ago (cue ball that would go over the cue tip for $5) to try to help beginners I run into understand point to point contact and throw.

I have had very little success with it.

Looks like it could be an excellent tool for that - being in control of exactly where the CB hits the OB should be a vivid lesson in aiming. But I think it needs to be in more control than shown - maybe using a bridge with a longer handle (a CB drilled to slip on a regular cue?).

I think it will not be useful to teach a proper stroke.
lol Ya think?

Has anybody made a telescoping cue with adjustable length for whatever shot/obstacle? Seems inevitable.

1 bar we used to have to shoot at occasionally had severe room restrictions, in several places if the cue ball was close to the long rail while shooting across the table you needed a shorty cue. They have always felt awkward to me. I bought a cheap cue, cut the butt, and made 2 different length aluminum butt sections to make it a normal weight cue in a couple of different short lengths. Everyone who has tried it likes it for a shorty because it weighs a normal 18-19oz.

What I made was a cue ball that would be placed onto any cue tip (it could be the persons own cue). You can only stroke it for about 4 inches before it gets hard to control.

What I was doing was having them place it as a ghost ball then pulling it back straight. At this point I would have them just set it down and look straight down the cue and give them a sense of the point to point concept . In addition I would would have them look at the fractional overlaps and explain how hitting the cue dead center (vertical) would work fine (I am amazed at how many beginners want to hit the cue ball off center for cut shots).

I need to try it with a bridge. that may help
