ok,I havent got a new shaft yet, but I did get my new jps in the mail today, and they are beautiful. One problem though, the butt jp fits perfect, but the shaft jp only goes down 3 threads max. what can I do to make this fit, other than cut the pin down to 3 threads? thanks guys and gals.:confused:

First of all, make sure the shaft jp is 14tpi. It would be unusual if it were not but not unheard of. Second, check to see that the threads on the jp are not damaged in any way. If they are, you may try a triangular file (60 degree) to dress up any areas that are damaged. Third, if the butt pin goes into the shaft ok but with very little 'play' the shaft insert may be tapped a little to tight. Run a 5/16-14 tap in the shaft to chase it out and see if it eases things enough to make the jp fit. Fourth, contact the person who made the jp and ask them what they will do to make it right.

im pretty sure its the cue, and not the jps. My schon is old, and it looks like the pin is tapered as well as the shaft insert. So no matter where I get the jps from they are not going to fit right. I cut 3 threads off the jp pin, and its almost perfect, but I will still have to cut al least 1/2 or maybe even one more full thread off to get it to fit perfect. thanks for the advice though.

The reason you are having problems is that a Schon uses a different size 5/16X14 than other cue makers. The major and miners on the threads are .006 or .008 smaller. That is the reason the pin has no trouble going into the standard female joint protector but the male joint protector for the shaft has the over standard size threads that are to large for the tapped insert. You could run a standard 5/16X14 tap into the insert opening it up slightly and then your joint protector will fit but by doing so your shaft will now be loose on the pin in the butt.

yea, im not messing with the shaft, Im gonna modify the jp. I will live without a jp before I mess with the shaft. thanks for the info though.
