Hi,

5/16x14 or 18?

Does the thread pitch make much of a difference as far as feel/strength/durability on a flat faced joint with 5/16 pin? Also, which insert gives a crisper hit, phenolic or brass?

Thanks
Ian

Oh one more thing...anybody ever seen or made a 5/16x10 pin?

yes i would imagine 18 thread would bend much easier than 14.

not many makers use 18 a few do

i can tell you this i have fixed a few meuccis with bent pins. them cheap vynal cases only let you put pin down so...

ive never seen a bent 14 pin

Thanks for the response. Any other cuemakers experience bending with the 18 thrd compared to the 14?

Actually, since the minor diameter on a 14 pitch screw is smaller than that of an 18 pitch screw, I'd say the 14 pitch would be easier to bend.

You can say that again.
I've built dozens of cues with 18 pins and never had a problem.
Several with 14 pins - no probs either.

To the OP - I doubt you can tell ANY diference between a 14 and 18,
playability, strength, etc, etc.

IMHO - anyone who is klutzy and dull enough to bend a joint pin
should immediately remove himself from the gene pool.

lol. very true. ive only had a few exper with a bent pin and all were with meuccis and all had them cheap cases that they drop the cue on its pin for years and years without a joint protcetor
