Here are pics of the 5/16 X 14 Pred 314 1st generation.

I may be wrong, but i thought the first generation only read "314"...no cat logo. I bought my first one in ~1995 and that's the way I remember it. Sorry if I am mistaken.

You may be right mosconiac, I always assumed that the regular 314 was the first generation, thus the discussions about 1st gen vs pre-cat. I will research more and post when I have a definative answer.

This is a first generation predator, but the real early predators may not have had 314 on them either i'm not positive on that. The first predators were built by Claussen (spelling ?) cues.

There were actually 2 generations of 314's with just the number on them. The earliest ones had more laminations than the second issue. The very first had 10 laminations, if I recall correctly, and the one I have has 6. The first ones were only out a year or less, when they reduced the laminations.

First introduced in both 6 and 12 splice laminations. Switched to 10 splice and added 314 to them. FWIW

Are you sure about when they added the 314? I have an early 6splice with the 314 on it that I bought when they came out.

No. But I did have 2 6 splice and 3 12 splice that were purchased in the first year they were out none of which have the 314 logo. The next year I bought 2 10 splice shafts and they both had the 314 logo.
