Is it out there? My father recently gave me his Shop Smith Mark V. They do not offer any chucks that would apply to shafts. Can anyone point me in the right direction on finding a 3 jaw chuck for this thing? I will eventually buy a Porper or a Hightower, but for now I want to use what I Have.

Thank you in advance.

Buy a chuck and a plain back adapter and have your local machine shop make it fit. If they won't do it pm me.

Thank you, I am very new to this...so my technical knowledge of parts is limited. I am reading through as many posts as I can so I can identify parts.

I found this, its a oneway talon chuck. Shop Smith has the adapter to make it fit. it also has an option to buy external jaws (#1 Jaw) that would be able to hold something as small as 3/8. would this be something I should by?

Just what is it that you want to do with this lathe? As far as cue building or cue repair its use would be extremely limited.

if you are wanting to mount a shaft thru the chuck so
just the tip and ferrule sticks out, as many cuetippers do on
their Chinise minilathes,
you won't be able to do that on a Shopsmith or even a real wood lathe
<that costs less than about $3k>

Thanks for the posts. I just want to do very basic repairs on the shafts, tips, cleaning, ferrules. Would that chuck on the link I posted earlier work?

Doesn't your machine convert to a drill press? If so, you should have a drill chuck. I use a 1/2" jacobs chuck with drive pins, it works very well. You may already have what you need.
