50/84 Instructional Video

Mike - I've been watching your excellent quality video and got up to 9:30 min so far. I have a question (I tend to ask obscure questions about minor position plays, but they're interesting to me). You had to shoot your break ball and you decided to choose a rail ball as your next break ball. You ended up getting shape on the 10. My question is whether you considered trying to bump the 10 into break position. It looked like the shot just needed a hair of inside english, since you almost hit the 10 as it was. Of course after that you'd have had to cut one of the remaining rail balls in and probably go up and down the table for the other one. (On closer inspection it looks almost as if the 10 is already outside the rack. Can you tell from the video if it was in or out?)

I guess I'm curious if you ever considering bumping balls into break position coming off the side rail?

Thanks again for the video.

Dan, Thanks for the nice comments.
Those shots that you are asking about. The 10 ball was inside the rack. I was not able to bump it at that late point in the rack. Did not even think about bumping b/c I had such a good break ball with the 13 ball.
When I took the shot in the corner and stated that I was going to bump the 5 ball. I was intending to bump the 5 more solid & just stop the cue ball. I was off with the hit, which caused the cue ball to roll into a bad position.
If I would of executed it properly. I would of had the 5 ball next. Had a good angle on the 12 ball, using the 10 as a key ball. That was the plan. Also, trying to bump the 10 when I did come off that rail would of been hard. Once agin, if I would of been off a little bit with the hit. The cue ball could of went up table. With such few balls on the table. It is just best to make a plan and go with it.
Yes, using the rail first then bumping balls is good. I do that often. It just did not come up in this run.
The end of the rack worked out great b/c I got to show a good break shot from behind the rack. Thanks so much for the question.

OK Dennis & Melinda, I gave it a try and I have another video. There is one problem...... I apologize, I got stuck in a cluster of balls after pocketing the 48 ball. I said it would be 50. I got stuck with two to go. What a Failure.... At least I did not miss or scratch to end the run.
The video came out really good in my opinion. I covered a few things that players might find interesting. It is a hard thing to do and i am sorry it was not 50. I think everyone will enjoy this video. Hope so.

PS: I can not down load this new video on Vimeo until Monday (they only let you do one per week).

Not 50? OMG. I'm SO disappointed!

Yea, right. My high run isn't even 50! :embarrassed2: I WISH I could run 50 even once a year! You are doing it more than once a week! Ugher...

Can't wait to see it. I have my first straight pool match of the Fall season tonight. :) hint hint. :p

i guess i liked it -- watched it 2x in a row!

i learned a lot, and was surprised several times by patterns, and realized later in the run why.

thanks for posting!

I finally took my time to watch the videos. That's just awesome. Thanks for doing this Mike!
