NEW POLL ON MAIN FORUM, MULTIPLE CHOICES
THE POLL HAS TWO PARTS. PART 1 PLUS PART 2 . THEY ARE BOTH ON MAIN FORUM

1999, billiards digest gave us the best 50 of the century. #1 was a carom champion, willie hoppe. I play pool, most of us in this country do, that means 15 colored balls, a white ball and six pockets, the game is a variation of any of that, 9,8, 10, 14.1, you get the picture. and although willie was peobably the greatest of all time in his game, I want to make it about pool and include some of todays talent. someone probably already did this, but I haven't seen it. Anyone willing to start a poll, which I have no clue how to do, is much appreciated. heres the original:

order?

Are these in any particular order. If they are then you have to have Efren and Johnny and Buddy near the top . And where is Busty.

That list is a joke...unless I don't understand the criteria.

I think ladies should be a separate list.

and I think it should be separated by decades.

It would be interesting to see how many make the list in different decades.

My thoughts exactly. Especially if we are talking about an all around player. Efren should be in the top 3 if not number 1 "IMO". Ralph Souquet should probably make it somewhere on the list also.

this is the original, give firsrt and last name of person I should include

I think your list is pretty good. I would definitely include SVB. But my question is this. You haveEfren at number 29. Do you really think that there are 28 people to ever play better pool then Efren?

The longer the list the tougher it is to make if you are ging off of a persons level of play and if it's in that particular order. Making a top 10 over the last 50 years would be interesting. Or maybe a list by decade then narrowing it down from the top 5 of each. It's always going to be debated on how today's players would fair against those of long ago but no one can really argue that no one in the last 50 years would like playing Shane in their prime. That being said he would have to be near the top of a "best of all time list" even at his current age.

I think that the original list is the overall best list from Billiards Digest from 1999. Obviously, looking at 1999, SVB wouldn't be on the all-time greatest list.

Shane makes it now along with Francisco Bustamante & Ralph Souquet IMO.

What, no Minnesota Fats?

Given the perpetual sorry state of pool with the general public, he has to be among the greatest....promoter.

Somehow I feel like this is asking who was the greatest band of all time? People always chose the band they loved when they were 16 years old. There is a time in our lives when something makes a BIG impression and nothing else can knock it off its pedestal, regardless of the "facts."

Even though I've only been playing pool for 2 years, I have to answer Efren Reyes because his play made the biggest impression on me (via youtube.com). Others may have been far greater, but you'll never convince me of that.
