57" Cue

I have a friend who wants his cue cut down from 58.5 inches to 57 inches. He says he used to use a 57 inch cue, and now wants to try one again.

Is it OK to do this by just cutting .75 inches off the butt cap (it's over an inch long and wouldn't look bad doing that) and cutting .25 from the ferrule end of the shaft and replacing the ferrule. I didn't see why this would mess up the balance of the cue, or have any other negative effects, but I wanted to get some opinions here.

Thanks,
Mike

I say just sell that cue and get another one.
If he cuts it, it'll have zero resale value.

Good point Joey; I would suggest looking for a Cognoscenti... All of the Cogs are built to be 57".

I would have another shaft made for the butt. That way you keep the original cue and can try a shorter shaft without damaging the cue or the value.

No problems Mike. You can take a 1/2 inch of both sides or do as you suggest. Let me know if you need someone to do this for you. Shorter cues play better...
Joe Gold among others know this....;)

So you're saying that if I were to play with a shorter cue I'd be able to play better shape, draw the ball better, put more side spin and other wonderful things? What about the fact that I have to sacrifice form in order to use a shorter cue, does that matter at all?

Zeeder...you're too damn tall for my short cue wisdom. I'm saying if a neutral player like Allison played with both of our cues...she'd play better with mine...simply because its shorter, deflects less, plays better, etc. You give up a lot of playability when you go to a longer cue.;)
Ask Joey Gold.:D
