58'' standard cue length needs to be bumped to 59/60''

I'm 5'10 - 5'11 but more on the 5'10'' without shoes. Anyways that doesn't matter seeing as my wingspan is pretty long. I've shot well with a 60 but haven't gone to a 59. Anyone shoot with a 59? I can readily get one from Mezz. The kicker there was a McWorter floating around for 2k and it was 60. Bump it so we have more options. The average man's height have risen over decades since the inception of cues.

How many of you shoot with a standard or 59/60?

I started experimenting with length in cues in the early/mid 80’s by having the Scruggs shop make me longer shafts for the standard 58” 29/29 split Scruggs I was playing at the time. A 30”, 30.5” and 31” to pair with the 29” butt so I could see which I preferred. Longer shafts on standard butts mess with balance a little though, although not always negatively. Eventually went to a 30/30 split 60” when Bob Frey opened his shop and also have an early 29” butt with 31” shafts for a 60” length he made me also, which is a little more front loaded balance than the 30/30 split.
I have played with my buddy's chopped up homemade Duff with the 30/30 and I like it. It expanded my peripheral vision too and not just the obvious difference in feel and bridge.

Just wondering how a 59 on an offset or staggered distribution feels like. Thanks.

It expanded your peripheral vision?

Two things:

How?

Wtf does anyone use peripheral vision for in pool?

The only difference I notice in longer cues is:
-shotmaking improved
-improved reach
-now gripping the wrap instead of the butt

Seems like all good things to me. I haven't noticed one negative.

I'm just shy of 6' and have always played with a standard 58" cue. Currently I have a 30" shaft as well as 3" screw on butt extension for my current cue and while I've tried both I haven't stuck with either. It's likely familiarity but 58" just continues to feel "right" to me. The 30" shaft wasn't bad but it just shifted the balance of the cue in my hand in a noticeable way, which kinda surprised me actually, didn't really expect to notice it. The 3" screw on exension is nice too but the added weight is definitely noticeable.

I may revisit one or both of the options again sometime, nice to have them available, but for now I'm just using it in standard 58" mode

I'm 6'3" and can play with 58-61". The only reason I prefer my 61" is due to it weighing a bit under 17oz.. This week I've played sessions with three cues from 17-20.5oz.. Makes no difference, really, if you bend your bridge arm accordingly. I grip a bit behind the middle of the handle.

I had 7 shafts with my old Palmer Hoppe model, shafts measuring from 57.5" to I think 60". The 60" felt so good..I really wanted it to work, but after much experimentation finally settled on 57.5. The 60" gave me an incredible aiming line, but I couldn't make shite.

standard was 57 long ago and then went to 58 as it is now. many go longer.

i still play with my old 57 and 58 inch cues. 60 never felt right for me.

house cues are still 57 in most places i think.

I'm 6'2 and just started playing with a 29.5-30 and I'm really liking the added length. So far, it's feels really natural and balanced.

I have played with a 59" custom from Palmer since 1975. I just do not feel comfortable with a shorter cue and could never go back. Cues were standard at 57" back in those days. I have tried 60" cues but they always feel whippy. Maybe I didn`t stick with them long enough.

I am 6’6” and changed to a 30” shaft long time ago (29/30) but looking forward adding an additional inch or two. So far many of the 60” cues (30/30) have felt a bit whippy or lacking proper ”spine”. Now, with CF technology I feel the spine is there to be found, depending on the CF manufacturer of course. I have one extra 60” cue from a Finnish cuemaker and just recently tried a 31” Becue shaft on it and I loved it. The CF is a bit lighter so it didn’t mess up the balance, but added a lot of spine and felt solid. I don’t like the general feeling of a CF shaft but as a part of a longer cue they are definitely worth testing.
