58'' standard cue length needs to be bumped to 59/60''

This is actually a pretty good point. I see a lot of players using cheaper/standard cues that are choking up on the thing or using a very compact stroke and stance. I think everyone could benefit with a 59" cue. I find a 30" butt and a 29" shaft ideal from the point of hit feel, reach and swing.

My rotation is a 29-29, 29-30 & a 30-30.
Mine too. The exception is that I had Dave Jacoby make me a plain Jane butt that is 31" long some years back. I've been playing here at the house with a 30" Rhino shaft on it for a total cue of 61". I'm liking it pretty good.

I'm 5'10 - 5'11 but more on the 5'10'' without shoes. Anyways that doesn't matter seeing as my wingspan is pretty long. I've shot well with a 60 but haven't gone to a 59. Anyone shoot with a 59? I can readily get one from Mezz. The kicker there was a McWorter floating around for 2k and it was 60. Bump it so we have more options. The average man's height have risen over decades since the inception of cues.

How many of you shoot with a standard or 59/60?
29" Butt 30" shaft, I like a forward weighted cue and this works for me

I think many would play better w a longer cue.

Nah. Better fundamentals. I've seen very few people who grip at the very end of the butt also have their arm at 90deg at impact. Usually they are over 90 which is a less stable body geometry for stroking.

I think there shouldn't be a standard length. Your cue ought to be the right length for you. I have seen several short women league players fitted out with 60-inch cues. Sometimes taller than they are. That's broken.

If you rarely hold the stick by the last few inches, it's too long for you. Carrying around 60 inches of stick just so you don't have to add an extension to reach a few shots is the wrong way to do it.

The cue should fit the person. If you have crazy long mutant arms and need a longer cue to have good fundmentals, for sure go with a longer cue.

I am just shy of 6'. Over 6' in my work boots. 58 cue works perfect for me, outside a few stretch shots. At which point I use the rake.

A longer cue can help some with their fundamentals, and hinder others. I feel many end up with a really long (too long) bridge when the use a longer cue because they natually grip at the far back.

Just use what is most comfortable and helps your fundamentals. Just make sure it is actually helpful.

I bought my son a 52” cue. There’s an infrequent shot in my basement pool room, where I need the compactness.

Danged if I didn’t pull that out for a shot the other day and kept using it. Felt just fine.

I find it comical when people have fancy wraps or custom shaft lengths, yet grip their cue at the buttcap.

“Let me tell ya bout the balance point.”

“Do tell!” I’ll ask you bout that crap all the time. Allow you to wax eloquently; it’s so interesting.

I'm 6'4" and when I started playing again, there were these things called extensions available. Lol.
I tried a mid cue and it helped me work out some of the bugs that had creeped in since I've aged. Much easier for me to shoot straight now w that extension. Makes me wonder how I ever played well w a shorter cue when younger. I do know my hand was all the way to the back of the butt on a 59" Scruggs back then.
I think that cue had auto pilot. Lol. I didn't have to do anything other than pick it up and Whammo!! Haven't played as well since it got ganked. Lol.
Seriously tho, the extension seemed to help me hold level, move back to center and prevents me from decel, excess elbow drop, etc...
A few extra inches was all it took. That's what my wife used to tell me anyway. 😂
...

I like having extra inches at the back. That way on those shots where your pinky touches the end of the cue it doesn't. An extra 2" adds many shots. Yeah I know, the mechanical bridge, the mechanical bridge, I use it more than most, but sometimes a guy feels like lengthening his regular bridge to 18" 😅

Unless it's my imagination, I believe longer cues improve my shotmaking. Hard to explain why mechanically, but to me, the difference seems significant.

I have played with my buddy's chopped up homemade Duff with the 30/30 and I like it. It expanded my peripheral vision too and not just the obvious difference in feel and bridge.

Just wondering how a 59 on an offset or staggered distribution feels like. Thanks.
I got lucky and found a 3" ebony 5/16 - 14 mid cue extension that fits a Joss I have perfectly!!
Doesn't seem to affect balance much... A tad forward perhaps, but the longer length it provides increases my shot making capabilities. Power draw is easier, high takes off like a bat out of hell.
I would overpower to get 3 rails coming out of a corner on straight ins or going long and coming back up. The extension allows me to back off the gas and stroke the shot.

I have no idea on a length a pool cue should be for each individual but as far as a snooker cue I found a 59-60" was perfect for me and I'm 6'1". The arm is on a pendulum from the elbow to the hand and it reduced shoulder, body movement etc and with a shorter cue 57-58" I still hit the ball good but took more effort at times

It’s also dependent on your bridge arm and the angle you hold your cue.

When I was young I played with my bridge arm straight. It naturally evolved to slight bend of the arm. I picked up a lazy habit of laying my elbow on the table too.

I’m trying to recall how i shot 10 years ago, last time I played religiously, so I can start shooting with that form and stance. My chin use to touch the cue but I don’t need to bend that low anymore.

My wrist are straight now but before it was bent. Palms facing the floor while holding the cue.

Back leg straight and slight bend with the left leg. Now I’m in a position with both legs bent. Which leads to soreness.

I'm 6'3" tall and got a Balance-Rite extension (3 3/4 inches) years ago and found it made the cue too heavy. Recently got a 30" CF shaft and am using that with the extension and a wooden butt. It is working well so far. Very comfortable and doesn't feel too heavy.
