Has anyone tried these out? What are your thoughts on the playability, maintaining shape, and mushrooming of this tip, and are there any other 4-5 layer tips that are better in your opinion. Please leave out any tip that are not 4-5 layers please.

I actually think that I miscue less with this tip than with a kamui, tiger, or moori because its less layers, and I'm concentrating more on my stroke. Cue ball control is good, but not as good as kamui etc, but I'm always outrunning my shape with those other tips honestly, and can't stand the feel of black kamui's at all. Brown kamuis feel better to me, but I'm always overrunning my shape with those too. These 5th avenue tips aren't that expensive, are they? I've never seen those other tips.

For those of you that have used them for a long time, do they get a lot harder after time like other layered tips?

Sounds like the tips I used to buy from Chris Hightower. They were 5 layered boar skin, I believe, and came in red and golden brown.
I don't recall what he called them, but I sold them as the Red Dragon, and the Gold Dragon.
They were good tips at a very reasonable price.

I found the 'BLACK DIAMOND' tips on e-bay. I believe they come from the same vendor as the 5th avenue. It is a multi layered SOFT Buffalo hide tip.
It is hard to explain the hit, other than to say that it is "spongy". This tip gives a good hit, getting all the spin one needs. The other great thing about them is they sell for approx. 3 for $10.00. I have tried a myriad of tips, and still keep coming back to these. Cheap enough to give a try! jmho. TAP

They're ok for the price. I've installed several, and have no complaints from that perspective. They're advertized as a med-hard tip, but are probable closer to a hard tip. They hold there shape, but are also prone to glazing over. For what it's worth, I haven't seen one delaminate yet.

you're right on the nose with your description!!!maybe they'd glaze less if they were med-hard like they're described. i used one of these tips exclusively for a few months. i really like the firmness and id still use one if it glazed over less.

Are there any 4-5 layer tips that don't glaze over as bad? I'm no wanting to go the kamui route, but I like that these tips are pretty firm. I've been playing with softer tips until I got this new espiritu cue with an xp shaft with 5th ave tip.
