6-Inch Pockets?

the tables have changed to much tighter. even with the ones with larger pockets the rails are so called tighter and dont let as many balls go in.

way back before most here were playing or maybe born you had lots of room to cheat the pocket and get better shape with the slower cloths.. no more so on most 9 foot newer tables.

for someone having fun on them or learning, pool is has too steep a learning curve with the higher rates in most rooms.

in golf the not so good players seem to go to the easy open courses where they have fun. in pool no one wants to be missing every shot and going straight to the chair.

I am confident they won't make their game "gimicky" like pool.

They tried that with "one foul rules," "jump/break cues," and "magic racks" - it sped up the game, but diluted the strategic components, and pool lost it's appeal....tampering would do the same thing in golf, - I am confident they won't make their game "gaffey" like pool.....people that like "gimmicky" will usually choose "Putt/Putt" courses.

Some golf course designers are experimenting with 8-inch holes, in order to attract more non-expert players and speed up the pace of the golf game.

For the same reasons, should we be experimenting with 6 or 7-inch pockets?

Any opinions?

On a golf course, a hacker's problems begin long before they get to the green. Cup size isn't going to reduce their frustration very much.

Maybe if they built 50-foot high walls lining the fairway...:D

It seems though that when I find myself on a pocket table which is rare, the damn pockets seem sub 4". Never measured any other than to stick 2 balls together in the corner. No way even with a hammer will both go.

For me it makes that even tougher to get back in the truck after driving 400 miles and drive to a pool hall. If I go I'll be doggin shots all night.

Most of the time I choose to watch TV in the Hotel room instead and wonder why I'm hauling my cue everywhere. More and more I just leave it at home. No billiard tables for the next 1000 miles.

I can't play pool worth a damn even though I can stroke a CB. 4" pockets? Not fun for me and hard to learn the game.

Used to be only one or two in a room was set up this way. No More.

Your post points are well taken; however balls are 2.25 inches in diameter, so two together make it more like 4.5 inches -- if they fit.
