New 6 Pocket Session League begins in Loganville, GA.

If anyone in the Atlanta area is interested and it is a reasonable drive, please come check us out. PM for details.

Session begins Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011 at 1:00 PM.

I'm not near Georgia but I'm curious how this works. As I understand it six pocket is similar to equal offense.

What are the rules and what kind of scores are you getting?

There is a game called Six Pocket as well. I'm the GA League Coordinator for 6 Pocket. Both of these have their respective similarities as well.

The 6 Pocket game is very near Equal Offense in that you rack all 15 balls randomly. Break hard as you would in 8 ball/9 ball, etc. Then begin running balls by calling what ball to what pocket. When you miss or foul, your turn is over and your score is recorded on a score card. Fouls are on CB only. Jump shots are not allowed. If you accidentally toch and move another ball, you are allowed to put it back in its original position.

I did a brief overview of Equal Offense and I may have overlooked it but I don't think it stated that you called pockets.

Where it becomes a little different is in the way both are handicapped. In EO, based on your skill level determines how many times you are allowed to miss and then continue the run. With 6 Pocket, once you miss your turn is over and the next player comes up and does it.

There are 2 types of penalties assessed in 6 Pocket. Either of them can occur immediately following the break.

Penalty: If you scratch on the break, spot any balls that you made and then begin your run with BIH anywhere on the table. Penalty assessed is 1 point.

Miscues and CB off the table also count as a penalty point so it is very possible to start your run with a negative score.

Penalty: If you don't like the lie/position of the CB after the break, you are allowed to take a relief penalty by picking up the CB and placing it behind the head string but you are allowed to shoot balls that are behind the head string as well to begin your run. Penalty is 1 point for this also.

The league itself is handicapped so I have players that are ranked as APA 3's and upwards. I've had 3's make the weekly payout just as easily as the better players.

Scratch scores have varied from the teens, 20's and 30's up to 123. Add the handicap to the scratch score to get total score and subtract any/all penalties.

There is a way to earn bonus points during your run in what is called the Multiple Ball Call Shot. If you know for a fact, that you can make 2 or more balls in one shot, then you must call each ball to its respective pocket. If you pocket the first ball you are awarded the 1 point for that ball. If the second or other balls pocket as you called them, bonus points are added for example, calling and potting 2 balls would earn you a total of 3 points. 1 point for the initial OB and 2 points for the additional OB and it goes up from there based on how many you pocket determines the number of bonus points.

The down side to the MBCS is that if you pocket one of your called OB's and fail to pocket the other(s), you are still awarded the 1 point for the one that dropped but due to missing the other(s), your turn abruptly comes to an end.

Thank your very much for your question and if I can be of any further assistance in answering the questions about the game or leagues, please send me a PM.

I encourage any and all to at least check out the 6 Pocket website (the older rules are still posted there) as it is a new league that is coming around and without seeming like I'm just contributing to draw traffic to their website but they are looking to open and expand in a lot of new areas and I'd be glad to put anyone in touch with them as I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post their link in my signature area.

Thanks, 123 is a solid score. I can usually get to around 100 in equal offense but the high score for a rack is 20 instead of 15.

I would probably join a league if they had one around here.

Starting Somewhere

Any league that has ever been around has always needed a place to start.

With 6 Pocket, it started in San Antonio, then I believe they have some small leagues in the Denver area.

Here in GA, they wanted to me to do a test market in the small area that I live in and so far, I wouldn't call it overly successful because the leagues are still new so word is slowly getting out.

I started with 18 on the roster, it rose to 25, and then back down to 17 because some couldn't handle the bruised egos, some had too many summer obligations, and some didn't really like playing against an entire field.

As with any league, some will come and go. Some will stay. Some will join up late. Some will be there on the first day.

We actually started about 2 weeks late in this last session but overall and not counting the weekly payouts, the session end tourney payout for members turned out to be a fairly good payout. No one got rich but the 4 that were paid, did pretty well.

I see no reason as to why one couldn't open up in your area. The questions they would ask you are:

Would you be interested in being the coordinator in your area?

Could you amass at least 10 players to get it started?

I'll be more than happy to have them get in touch with you if you'd like but will need some type of contact info.
