I've been watching a Snooker Event on YouTube called "6 Red" where they play the frame with just 6 Reds (hence the name). It's a lot faster game than the traditional snooker with the 15 Reds, looks like fun!! I could totally see this game catching on here in the states if we could just get a few rooms to put in a Snooker table or two. I know, they're always trying to cram as many small tables in as possible to maximize their space, but it wouldn't have to be the Pro size 12 ft., they do make smaller Snooker tables, maybe a couple of 10, or 8 footers in a few rooms would get it started. We could even make the game a bit longer & tougher by using 9 Reds (we already have the 9 ball racks) once it started catching on.

Pro Pool is always looking for the next game that they hope will capture the public's interest and revive the Pool/Billiard scene, this could be it, right now it's 10 Ball, but how long will that last?

So here's my idea to get an American Snooker game going - start with the 6 Reds game then once it starts catching on move up to 9 Reds in the Diamond 9 ball rack.
There could be Tournaments for all 3 versions, 6, & 9 Reds, and of course eventually the full 15 Reds.

What do you think? Good Idea or not? I would like try it if I new of a room some where in my area that had a decent Snooker table to play on! and Yes I know we are supposed to already have 'American Snooker' somewhere but I never see or hear anything much about it, except right here on this forum!!

There are many reasons why snooker is not bigger here in the states, most involve length of the game and difficulty level. 10 reds is very common among the snooker community, and I have seen 6 reds played. The 9 red setup even makes the break shot a lot harder. We have plenty of games, and tables, now we need dedicated players.

Agreed and understand, have heard the reasons about Snooker here in the States for years. As to length & difficulty of the game, well we play One Pocket don't we, that requires a 3 month lease on the table with a security deposit! LOL

It's just that I was watching the Video of the 6 Reds tourny and I kept thinking that looks like a fun version of Snooker to play. It's a much faster & easier version of the game. That got me to thinking that it would be good for TV or Live Stream here, and for those that are interested in such things, a good gambling game. Then as I kept watching I had other Ideas as to how we could have other versions of it like with the 9 ball set up. Ooh, just had a thought about the difficulty of the break shot for the 9 Reds, instead of doing the traditional 9 ball diamond set up, turn the rack sideways, that way the end balls stick out a bit further and would be easier to hit.

I live in the Dallas area and as far as I know there are no Snooker tables to play on in the area, at least not outside of private clubs or someones home table, and I don't know of any of those either. A long time ago CJ's Billiards when it first opened under the name of Champs had 2 Snooker tables, a 12 ft. and a 10 ft. and as far as I know no one ever played Snooker on them. CJ eventually got rid of the 10 ft., he kept the 12 ft. for several years but the only game that I ever saw get played on it was Golf. CJ finally got rid of it also so he could put in more pool tables.

Anyway, these are just thoughts and I don't really expect anything to come of it! :smile:
 
Dillard Allen[sp?] used to play in CJs . He was a snooker champion.
Billiard den has/had a table.

I remember Dillard, I heard he passed away several years ago now. He was a very good player, but I don't remember ever seeing him play Snooker, of course it might have happened when I wasn't there.

I've only been to the Billiards Den a couple of times 5 or 6 years ago when I was in the area on other business, it's a little bit too far from me to make regular trips there to play. Now that you mention it, I do think I remember seeing a Snooker table in there.
 
I would play any form of snooker. Here in the Houston area there are actually quite a few 6 X 12 tables, though for me, it is quite a drive to get to one. One reason most halls don't have them, in my opinion, is space. They take up a ton of space, hence, they can put 3 more pool tables in the same space which will mean more income for the room owner. The other factor is difficulty of the game, where as most casual players would become (or have become) frustrated very quickly. Me, I'm not very good (my high run is 48) but still love to play.

If I hit the Lotto I would open a room with several tables, but then I don't play the Lotto so my chances are fairly slim. :)
