68-and-out in a tourney...

Hi guys... this is video I have of me running 68-and-out on my mentor Danny Barouty in the 2004 Downingtown tournament. Danny only needed a few balls to win.

This is NOT a pretty run. It was a tough table and the balls weren't opening well. Proper pattern play was difficult - you sort of just had to take what you were given.

Anyway, I post it merely because I was proud of the fact that with my back against the wall, I came with some good shots and showed a little heart.

I went on to win the tournament, running a 142 in the finals. THAT was a pretty run, I had the tape, and I seem to have lost it :( . I'm sick about it.

Steve, nice run and it sure was pretty to me!:) 68 and out is pretty no matter how ya cut it :)

Thanks for posting it, there are certainly some things to be taken from the video. What sticks out to me is your certainty of your shot before you approach your shots, one or two strokes and fire. Your rythem also shows your experience, quickly mulling your 2 or 3 options on any particular situation and quickly taking the correct shot for the equipment, I will keep that in mind now instead of going for too much sometimes. I will watch it over a number of times and learn more from it I am sure.

Please tell me you found the tape of the finals :(

lol... that did have some pretty ugly parts in it, but whatever works, right?

I know you hated going to the back of the stack ( at approximately 22:00) but you sort of trapped yourself into doing that -:p - you were stuck - and when you realized that was all you had it was too late to do anything about it. lol... It sucks when that happens, but you dealt with it like a champ!

I hate when the balls don't open up well - that is when you find yourself shooting balls out of clusters all the way up table, or you're nudging balls out constantly - or just taking things one shot at a time because you're constantly trying to "open things up". It's hard to remain consistent at the pace that you were shooting, but you did an awesome job! Thanks for posting this! Its good to see back here and posting again!

I thought that it might be when Steve said Downington!! I gotta get there if your running that tourney again this year!!

Kev, Mickey runs a great room, wherever the physical location is. You'll be happy you came, I promise you that. He will make you feel like a regular.

Thanks for the comments. David, I agree with everything you wrote except that as I remember it, I was playing for that under-the-rack breakshot from fairly early in the rack. It was laying well and had some good keyballs, but most importantly, because the balls weren't opening up well from the side breakshots, I wanted to try one from underneath.

As it happened, I underhit the keyball and left myself too much angle on it - so I had to let the cueball go a bit on the actual break. On top of that, I got an awful kiss off the rack the 2nd time through which left me all the way uptable. Kind of a bad roll but I was lucky enough to have the easy shot on the 1 afterwards with the helper right by the lip of the corner.

You would be more than welcome Kevin.
We usually have this event around Labor day give or take a couple weeks,
depending what other events are at the same time.

This year will be the 21st Anniversary of this tourney.
Watch my web site for information when its available.

Thanks for the kind words Steve, I deserve them L.O.L.
Pete and I do try very hard to make the players and spectators feel welcome.
