I'll bite if only to provide this video for you. It's a quick, easy, and free way to spend 10 minutes learning to play better and it will give you some basic terminology we all use.

As far as, "unofficial" rules, I understand what you were trying to get at, but realize that those, "unofficial", rules vary from bar to bar, like it or not. That's why we have standardized rules and descriptions for situations; so we all speak the same language.

Just noticed something about the board name for the "writter" of the "guide"

PoolKiller. Which is about what the result of uisng that thing will do :grin-square:

The guy's main argument seems to center around calling people "idiots" without any backing aside from "many people suck so we compiled the rules they use in a book so they can feel better about their suckage".

OK, this conversation started to piss me off a little. I dare you all to visit the bars and other places where they have pool tables (skip the professional clubs) and tell me how many people actually used the pro rules.

What? Do you think we were born yesterday? We've all been there. I'm pretty sure most of the people who have replied on this thread are criticizing the techniques suggested and not the rules.

They just roll their eyes at the silly rules there.

I wanted to leave some constructive criticism about this guide on the hosting site and to warn new players that may stumble on that thing, but feedback has been disabled by the author. Wonder why...

Of course you can.

I don't think he "learned to play" at home. The "Learning" and "Play" part is stretching it. I gotta hand it though, once you get Bob Jewett and Fran making fun of you, that's a high you just can't top.

I'm going to print that thing out and bring it over to Snookers on Sat., should give some folks there a good laugh. Maybe Dechaine will be there, he can pass it around the tour hehe. That thing has got to be AT LEAST as embarassing as having a sex tape out on the web.
