8 ball racking habits and don't use the 1 ball!

Ha, you must have seen me once 20 years ago. Was gambling with a person that refused to give me a good rack, every ball was loose, I am talking 1/8 to 1/4 inch gaps everywhere. :eek:

I created quite a ruckus.

I have mellowed out some since.

Sounds like a valid reason to get upset.

I once had someone give me a dirty look because I pointed out that the 1 had to be in the front of a 9 ball rack. He acted like I was just doing it to annoy him LOL.

An old timer once told me to rack the 6 ball in the front because it is harder to see or determine the center of ball from looking at the base sitting on the table because of the color and shadow. Also to make sure that the number isn't visible in the front to give a target.

I have a pattern I use that I copied from Corey Duel ... he was using it in a bar box video I saw online;

____H
___H H
__H 8 L
_L L L L
H H L H L

Seems to create a table layout after the break with all lows in one area and all highs in another.

I know it isn't legal if I'm called on it, but I very seldom have been asked to change/stop doing it in a match.

I'm pretty sure this would be considered pattern racking, thus frowned upon.

There is a racking video that Mika did you can find on YouTube where he talks about dark vs light colored balls and strategy for placing them. He said he would place certain balls on the corners in 9 ball because if the player was going to make them anyway, might as well make it a color that is easier to aim at to get that off the table.
