i gotta respectfully disagree softshot. first of all,we're talkin 8 ball, not 9 ball. why shouldn't you be able to put a 5 or 6 pack on a guy?

is it a bad thing to allow a player to get into high gear? that's one aspect on how most would judge how great a player really is - by

how many consecutive racks he/she can run. it would be a shame if no one ever saw just how great a legendary player like keith

mccready was b/c he didn't have a chance to string together a ridiculous number of racks like he was known for. second, i disagree that

over a long set, breaking works out to 50/50. some days you're going to have the better breaks, sometimes the other guy will. the thing

is that if you're not the one breaking well off the get-go, how would you even have a chance at mounting a comeback if you don't have

that oppurtunity to get into a gear and put racks together?

I'm, sorry we just have to disagree.. I have been on both the winning and losing side of "packs" it is simply not "fair" competition.

pretend we are in vegas and we just decide to let the gamblers make the rules..

now we win if we come within 5 points of 21 either way the house pays us

if I go all in and lose..playing hold em I get 25% of my bet back to take home with me...

NO ... Pool is the only gambling game on earth where the gamblers get to make the rules and the rules change every time you play...thats just plain weak..

sitting in a chair getting pounded without a chance to shoot.. isn't fair

I came to put up my money and PLAY not to watch you shoot pool..

I think the winner should break always. Life is not fair and neither is pool.
How many times has some one got a lucky safe, lucky shape, or luckily pocketed a ball? Also I think they should ban the acu-rack. The rack is too perfect. A great player has the definite advantage with an acu-rack. When you rack the balls with the triangle there can be subtle differences from rack to rack increasing the chances for ball to roll more randomly.
This rack your own rack and loser breaks serves the greatest purpose of getting more players to the tournaments. It is more profitable period. Because it handicaps great players.
I would rather give up games than give up the break. I think the proper way to handicap in a small tournament is to increase the games needed for good players to win.
I still play loser racks and winner breaks. If your opponent gives you a bad rack and you break it, that’s your fault! You should check the rack before you break. Once you strike the rack it’s on you.

Knee capping greatness is communist tactics!

Depends whether I am watching or playing.
I like taking winner breaks for a bit of gamble (not that I do for much of anything big) - to some extent you are involved in making the match-up and setting the rules. If you weren't already in with a shout, you wouldn't take the game. Staying at the table builds confidence when playing in these situations in my experience, especially the ones that had a bit of banter along the side.

For tournament play, I prefer alternate breaking - As a spectator, and as a player.
I think it reduces the pressure load during those uneven match-ups against players who are a step above, and which in a tournament setting, you didn't chose to match-up, it's just how it came to be (and know full well what they are capable of). It probably gives much more of an advantage to a strong intermediate facing a higher level player, than it does a novice facing an intermediate.

A stronger non breaking player should be able to negate anything than an out!

So the stronger player simply doesn't break? Confused
I personally like winner breaks when playing for something.
I like to watch others in alternate break format.
I like alternate break and short sets in tournament play.

Maybe I didn’t make my belief clear. I think alternate break allows the better overall player to win.

Drumf fan? Suppose a stacked deck is fair too. If your handle has anything todo w a Laker, he’d be disappointed.
Drumf? What does that even mean? And what does a stacked deck have to do with it, that’s cheating. Are you some kind of internet tough guy? Just want to talk shit and argue? And what do you mean about my handle?

Not at all, if I’m a tough guy, nobody can be. Lol

My point is if you break and run every rack are you better?

as a diehard Laker Fan, Kareem, Magic or Kobe wouldn’t think a free throw contest should determine a winner

Nobody breaks and runs every rack. There are not many if any in history. And you didn’t answer my question. What is drumf?

Before moving to the US, it was Trump, thought it was public knowledge by now, no offense if you were unaware.
Well I’m offended by the way you spoke to me as well as being just rude. The use of derogatory comments are not allowed on this forum as well as rude behavior. I reported your comments for rude and derogatory behavior. Personal attacks are not allowed either.

Supposedly jack dumped the balls on dry rack. Would have ate your tonsils and spit out your testicles, telling his lizard, I love you. You

Only those who think they play 8b at a high level want a winner break format. The reality is, at even a 'shortstop' speed. 8ball is a run out fest. Hell I'm not even a 700 player and I've ran out sets.
