Break, take ball in hand and run out. If you miss you lose. If you find the ghost tell him he owes me $200:cool:

oh ok, ive had that explained to me before as a skill testing game. do it ten times and u get a point for every ball and the 9 is 2 points.
thx alot man

Not only is it a skill test, people gamble on it....

Race to 7 for 100, playing the ghost.. etc.

Lol you are not playing the "APA Ghost" you are playing the real GHOST. The one who has broken many a player and never made or missed a ball.

Break, take BIH and run out. If you miss you lose if you run out you win. Race the ghost to 7 everyday until you kick the sh-t out of it. Good luck.

When playing the ghost is it rotation?

Thanks,

Pete

It's usually 9 ball, but can be 10 ball or even 8 ball. I don't think I'd want to play the ghost one pocket :D, but hey... that's just me.

Basically what the ghost is, is an opponent that NEVER misses. He can kick in the next shot and run out on you. So if you miss, you loose.

its played standard rules of whatever game you are playing. the ghost represents the best player imaginable, that where ever left is going ot get out, no matter what. hence if you miss, you loose. he just happens to give a spot of break and ball in hand.

What's the rule for scratching on the break when playing the ghost?
Mr H

I would imagine that this would be area dependent and discussed prior to any match/set.

When I am playing the ghost at home I play 4 or 5 ahead sets and I count scratches as a loss.

Lots of rules are open for debate.

Scratch on the break Win/loss?
Do 9's on the break count as a win?
Do balls made on the break stay down?
Do early 9's count as a win?

I think the most standard way is all balls stay down. Any scratches loose.

Lately I've been playing no BIH after the break. This makes me focus on CB control a lot more, but can also lead to a lot of frustration if you get in a rut of not getting things to roll where you want them to. But I feel that this adds importance to the practice session. I don't want to just break and rerack over and over, I want to get to that 9, so I really focus on what I'm doing and give it effort. I also count 9's on the break a win, balls on the break stay down, and early 9's count as a win as well.

scratch on the break = BIH for me:cool:
9 on the break = win
balls on the break stay down
YES its nine ball, some even play with safetys

Since you have BIH after the break and it doesn't matter if you made a ball or not, would a good strategy be to break soft/medium just enough to spread the balls and ensure that you don't tie anything up?
Mr H <--- ghost playing virgin

Your ghost is a weak ghost then. My ghost hasn't missed a 6 rail kick yet... With shape!!

It's a good way to practice safety's though. But to keep it very challenging then the only ones that should count is when the balls are frozen.
