Hey guys getting some players together for a 9 ball ring game weekly at my place. We have not been playing that the 5/9 count on the break but some of the players would like that. Is that normal ?
If so does the back two not count and where do you rack the 5? Maybe be easier if we rack the 9 on the spot to assure it doesn't go straight in the back.

Any opinions here ?

Thanks everyone ahead of time for any info

I play that if it goes on the break it counts. Now if the nine goes I have played where you keep going until you make the five then stop, and whoever made the nine breaks. And I have also played where you spot the nine and can Win a little more money.

A far as where to rack the five. I would say one of the front two balls is a good spot for it. Seems to go less from there. Just like if you were giving up some weight you usually rack it in the front.

Used to play a twice a week 9 ball ring game before I moved here, to the great pool desert! We would play 9 counts in any pocket on the break and if the 9 goes on the break and the 5 does not, then pay the guy for the 9 and spot the 9, he continues shooting. If both the 5 and the 9 go, pay for both game is over. If the 5 goes on the break, 9 does not, pay for the 5 and it stays down.

Also, anytime the 9 is made before the 5 during the game, we paid for the 9 and spotted. We did NOT consider the game over until both money balls were off the table, in order.

We always racked the 5 on the second row. It may go from there on occassion, but not too often.

You're going to get 86 renditions of how to play on this thread.

What balls do you spot on a foul? Just the ball before a money ball?

How often can you shake?

Where's the 5 rack? (Usually 2nd row)

Does the 2 ball rack on the tail?

Is a ball that overhangs the headstring in or out of the kitchen?

Is the 9 no good on the break in the lower corners?

Can we spot the SL 6 the 8 ball? Is it wild?

--------

Ring games are great, but people all need to be on the same page. That's the challenge.

Ok sounds good guys we will just figure out some type of set rules and go with them.

Thanks everyone

When we play the 3, 6, and 9 are the money balls i have never played with just the 5 and 9 we must be strange in effingham IL

We have been playing 5/10 or 10/20 with 4-6 guys could get too expensive with all those balls lol.
