Basically we have 5 different routes going to 3 target zones so far:



Desired Outcomes

Route 1 as suggested by belmicah and SpinDoktor (see page 2), going one rail back to zone A. However, there are concerns by a few members about the window between the 7 and 8 being small.

Route 2 as suggested by Russ Chewning, Hal, Fred, Snapshot9 and a few others (see page 3), going 2 rails to Zone B. However, a good speed control is needed.

Route 3 as suggested by JoeyA as an extension of Route 2, going 4 rails to the tip of Zone A (see page 4). This would be a shot for skilled players with confidence.

Route 4 as suggested by VIProfessor and JSP, drawing straight back to Zone C (see page 5). However, a straight alignment is needed. Cutting the 5 is just a little more difficult. And this might not work for lefty player.

Route 5 as suggested by PoolSharkAllen, Cuebacca and Mr. Byrne, drawing straight back to the short side of the 5 (page 6). Again, a good speed control is needed, This might not work for lefty player.

Thanks again for joining the discussion, it is really a great learning experience for me. At the moment I feel there is a need to clarify a little more about running 5, 6, 7 before we move on. Let's click on the link below and think some more.

This is also a righty vs. lefty idea. I think some lefties wouldn't even consider the straight back draw shot, and maybe not the 3-railer (shot #2 and similar) because that pattern isn't on their side of the table to reach.

As a righty, the shot across the table (shot #1) is going to get tougher based on the angles available with ball-in-hand and how far I'd have to stretch. And whether or not I have a mini-skirt on.

While you can edit (delete the copy from the message area) I don't think you can delete the Title. I believe you can ask the administrator to remove the thread or the post if you have a good reason.

For the most part, if you delete the info, no one will reply and it will lie there in AZ space unappreciated and unresponded to falling to the back of the stack of posts and not appearing after a short while.

U and me both, Patrick. EVERYONE down here now looks at the weather report with grim anxiety. :eek:

For the rest of the forum who might not be familiar with Patrick: Patrick Johnson is a serious student of the game as well as an excellent teacher. You would do well to pay close attention to his posts if you wish to improve your game and remove misconceptions about the sport of pocket billiards.

Patrick, I hope you decide to make AZ one of your favorite places to post. AZ is an excellent forum with many good contributors and excellent players. The management has an excellent way of modulating the atmosphere on AZ. :D

Your accurate insights and contributions to our sport are greatly appreciated.

I love this thread and the ability to post the table. I favor Russ' method. Rather than "crossing" the line of your intended position you are traveling along it, reducing the chances of a speed error. It also has zero chance of a scratch. Perhaps it's all my 3-cushion that makes me favor this shot but of all the options I like *my* chances best with this one.

I'm always lookin' to travel along my intended position line rather than across it, such as with the draw shot.

I'd claim that's my 2 cents but I doubt it's worth that.

Wow! :) :) :)

A shot layout can be like a good chess game. People will come back and talk about it from time to time. It is even possible people can talk about similar concepts in different layouts from different time.

This reminds me of a conversation with friends earlier: how many different concepts can there be in a game of 9 ball?... and how can we all jointly organize these ideas?


BTW, anyone interested in having a video contest of some sort for this series of layouts?
