9 ball tournament

I hope someone can help me with rules in organizing a 9 ball competition.
We are a senior community that would like to have a tournament among our residents.
We will have aproximately 10 to 16 players that will compete.
We also have 6 women that will compete against themselves also.
Can anyone give me info on how to run a tournament like this.
Can it be for only 2 to 3 hors long?
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, HARV

You can make it however you like it. If time is an issue, consider a single elimination bracket, where if you lose you are out.
Generally speaking tournaments will play a "race" to a certain number of wins to advance. You can make it 2 out of 3, 7 out of 15..... whatever suits you and your players. I do not have brackets handy to post, but if you search the web you can locate double elimination and single elimination brackets for anywhere from 8 players to 128 is the largest I have seen.
If you are using an 8 player bracket and you have 6 players (the ladies for example) put numbers in a hat 1-8 and have the players draw for seeding on the bracket. The leftover numbers are byes. So the player who is against the bye automatically advances.
Hope this gives you a general idea to help you get started.

Harv, if you need any pool charts for your tournament, let me know and I will email them to you. They will be PDF files that you can print on any laser printer but will only be 8 1/2 x 11 in size.

Send me your email address if you are interested.

Also, you need to consider how many tables you have to play the tournament on. The first tournament you might have SINGLE elimination. Lose one match and you're out.

If that tournament was too short and you are so inclined, do the DOUBLE elimination where if you lose your first match you are still in the tournament but in the loser's bracket (left side of pool chart).
