I was wondering i was playing in my local league race to 9 alternate break and every chance i got to break nothing im hitting solid, leaving the CB in the middle of the table, i dont use a BK cue, i just use a old cue of mine. Im breaking on the headstring about 2 inches of MY right i bridge with my right hand so i think thats the side, anyways.....i couldnt get ball off the break to save myself. i practiced for about 30 minutes racking them and breaking rackign them and breaking over and over 30 trys out of those 30 i had 2 balls down. The balls spread nothing just goes down. I would like to hear about others and there break styles.... something to atleast get a ball down.

You have to move the white one around. Every day. The rack spreads differently, depending lots on where you break from, also speed, elevation of back hand. You can also rack the balls toward the front or back of the spot. You have to experiment and choose your best option not just keep using whatever poo you get stuck with.

the break in 9 Ball is certainly funny, and very frustrating sometimes. only thing i know to do is to, as has been stated, move the cue ball around, try different speeds, make sure the rack is tight, use a different cue, remember each night is different, each table is different, etc, etc.

one just never knows about the break. sometimes it works fine, other times you try and try and dont have any luck. persistence is the key here.

Ok thx "Black-Balled" And DCP, just was a bad night for me nto a ball would drop, it was rack your own so and i know my racks are nice...anyways tonight may be diffrent. Thanks Alot .

I always break from about 8" off the head rail (with a bridge hand and just below center ball) and then about 4" right of spot. I hit it hard and usually end up w/ cue ball in middle or low middle of table. I almost always make something on the break. I use same break for 9-ball or 8 ball.

If your hit on the one is consistently square, and you didn't make it clear whether that is so, and you are spreading the balls well, I'd agree with other posters in this thread that you should try a new spot from which to break. Sometimes, trying a different speed can help, too.

Still, although the balls may sometimes be spread with a slightly less than square hit on the one, less than square hits on the one can cost you, and are generally the result of jumping up a little on the break shot. Dont forget, the break is a shot like any other, and to get an accurate hit on the object ball, you must stay down. On occasion, when I'm struggling with my break, I'll ask a friend to watch me for the purpose of determining whether I'm staying down properly on my break shot.

Have you made sure that the rack is tight ? One-ball should be frozen to both balls and they should be frozen to the wing balls.

I usually break from the left side of a table placing CB about 5" from the rail. I strike hard a little bit below center of the CB without any english. I try to hit one ball square. On this type of break, when everything is done properly the CB jumps or stops on contact with the one. Left wing ball goes to the left corner pocket and the one goes to the right side pocket. Also other balls goes somwhere else. A few days ago I've made 5 balls on a 9' Gold Crown. This is very good break which is used by great number of pro's. Break is most important shot in 9 ball game and must be learned to perfection.

my breaks are nice and tight i know that. i know how to rack a set of balls and its tight. i will just mvoe the balls around. i also tried a relitivly soft break. but i will try anything once. thanks for your responces

I have a great deal of success in this arena. In my new book, Joe Tucker explains the intricasies of a 9 Ball Rack. Joe is the Author of Racking Secrets. He has a dedicated chapter in my new book about the Break Shot and the Rack.

Imagine a line through the center of the 1-5-2 in your WEI layout. Aim for that line on the 1-Ball. The Cue Ball will rebound off the rack into the upper long rail, then across the table to the lower long rail, somewhere around the headstring. The 1 ball travels toward the side pocket, but if it doesn't go, the 1 ball bounces off the lower long rail toward the corner pocket where the Breaker is standing. The wing ball on the breaker's side of the rack should go. Try that for awhile. The Rack has a weakness, You have to find it. Just hitting the Cue ball 25mph won't do it. Success in this arena requires precision & practice. This arena also requires some ingenuity because every Pool Table & set of balls act differently... move the Cue ball around, sometimes 1 inch makes a big difference.

One more TIP from the TOP... watch your opponent. If your opponent is scoring, ask yourself why & how... Good Luck.
