For those who are normally shy about clicking links, the above gives game by game stats from 1940's pro straight pool leagues.
Players include Greenleaf, Mosconi, Andrew Ponzi, Irving Crane, etc. Very interesting to see how they matched up against each other, and their high runs for each game.
I noticed that each player appeared to be sponsored by their home pool room. Seems like a great arrangement for both room and player, i.e. player hangs around the room giving lessons, drawing people etc, and the room sponsors the player in events like these leagues and tourneys. If the player does well, it bring visibility and exposure to both.
I wonder why this isn't done anymore, probably just not enough potential return for room owners. Damn. Those guys had it better than today's pros by far.
