A Complete Idiot's Guide to Posting

I made a post a while back asking about help with form. A lot of people gave great input and the one I've actually gotten around to trying right off is buying and reading the book "A Complete Idiot's Guide to Pool and Billiards" by Ewa Laurance. I don't think I've ever gone through a book that big, that quick. I dredged a lot of information from it and it made an immediate improvement in my game, especially in the aspects of my stance, stroke, and just over all seat-to-table motion. I've never been able to apply a self help book so directly and quickly. I'd totally reccomend this book to beginners like me, who need a firm foundation to build their pool knowlege on. the only downside is, well, carrying around a book for "idiots". But all ego aside, after applying the tips in this book and spending some time in the poolhall, you should be able to defend your honor soon enough. Thanks to whoever reccomended that one.

Next Up: I need to go to that Cue-Tech class in Dallas with RandyG... can't wait for that trip :D

Zombiac,
I agree that it is a pretty good book, with a lot of good material for the beginning and intermediate player.

What I DON'T understand, is why breakup didn't sue her for using his name in the title of the book.

Betmore Dude, it hardly seems fair you taking pokes at the breakup when he hasn't posted in days. I know baiting the less fortunate is a great past time and all, but you could show a little restraint when he can't make a feeble attempt at defending himself.:D

Super-G,
I will have to respectfully disagree with your assessment of breakup's ability in the defense department. He would require 12 years of schooling and a partial brain transplant to improve all the way up to "feeble."

Hideous, stalker/trolls like breakup MUST be treated with the utmost severity WHEREVER AND WHENEVER possible. It's JUST like dealing with terrorists (well...except the terrorists have better manners, intellect, hygiene, and pool ability) - what are you, some kind of bleeding heart liberal (imagine John Belushi in Animal House...."oh nooooo, we can't do anything to breakup...it wouldn't be nice and polite...he might get offended")? HEY...did we give up when the German's bombed Pearl Harbor????? I'm going to keep on; IT'S WAR!!! Breakup??....He's a dead man.

P.S. - I'm going to be gone for a week, so please just consider this a pre-emptive strike. See you in a week.

Has anyone read Hustler Days? It's sitting on my bookshelf and I just finished my current book... should I pick it up or continue... wait who bombed pearl harbor?

I read the book and it was somewhat depressing, dark, gritty and insightful into the old school pool hustling days as experienced by some of the great hustlers, Jersey Red,Fats etc. I really enjoyed it.On a 0 to 5, I give it a 3.5. It's worth the read.

Ugh!!!!!! I hate that phrase.... bleeding heart liberal.... I mean just because I make annual donations to the SPCA and drop a dime ($0.10) into a bums collection cup once a year doesn't make me a bleeding heart liberal.

If baiting Breakup like this makes you happy then by all means I support you. Me, my pastime is playing with model trains.(they might be more technilogically advanced than your hobby, but I'm sure they're equally as enjoyable)

P.S. while you're gone for a week, you might want to check up on your history, While I'm sure the Germans bombed many harbors, I don't think any of them had any pearls in them.

G,
The SPCA is a great organization - they are thinking of paying me to take it easy on that dog breakup in the grudge match.

I'm not sure if baiting breakup makes me happy; I just think of it as a public service obligation. I implore you to not allow your feelings to take over - breakup is of the same ilk as termites, rodents, roaches - vermin that MUST be dealt with.

I'll check up on my history; but only if you check up on your movie trivia (the line about the Germans is from Animal House).

Betmore dude,

Thanks, for the movie tip, it's been too many years since I've seen that classic.

Living in a rat free province and being in a climate where roaches aren't found often I must admit my anti-vermin are a little rusty. I'll try to better in the future. I can start with some of those pesky Canada geese. (especially the ones that poop all over the greens at the golf course) My BBQ needs the workout anyways.

Thanks for having my back SGM (I think), however I have been ask to refrain from direct confrontation with Willie for a while by his coach and his interpreter. As we all know Willie has to communicate through an interpreter here on AZB as well as at home. The wonderful/patent woman from the Jane Goodall institute is assisting Willie overcome his communication challenges. Willie expresses himself with a primitive form of grunts and body gestures that she is able to make some sense out of, she is truly a remarkable woman. Apparently following a recent exchange here on AZB Willie became so exhausted from the frantic hand signals and gestures to his interpreter he collapsed for a while. The exhaustion was so severe that he was forced to be removed from his medication for many days to recover from the event. This causes great hardship for all concerned. Obviously when he is not medicated no one else can be allowed in Betmores basement for safety reasons as well as he must be restricted to
foods he can eat without utensils such as sandwiches that can be dropped in to him through his mail slot. After he returned to his normal medication the cleanup of Betmore’s Basement was extensive to say the least. This proved to be an unanticipated setback in Willie’s therapy. Of course when I learned of this I was more than willing to help. We are all pulling for Willie and I’m glad to do whatever I can do to help with his progress.

Cheers

Yes definitely, it is a very entertaining story with some great anectdotes. I carry the book wherever I go for something to read. I think I've read through it about five times since christmas.

I haven't set a date yet. I just know its something I want to do very badly and its high on my list. lol I don't even know how much I should be saving up for. But December timeframe is a little soon since I'm strapped for cash with my new house. Luckily, I have a friend who lives in the Dallas area, so I won't have to pay for a hotel when i go.

breakup,
If you would REALLY like to help, then I have just 4 words for you: long walk, short pier.

P.S. - I'd insult you further, but I have a sudden craving for a banana.
