A Couple of Fancy Josswest Cues

Hi All,

I found a couple of pictures of two of my Josswest cues that are part of my Warrior cue collection.

The cues look great together with the matching Whitten cases that have inlaid turquoise warriors
on the end caps and on the body of the cases. The ebony cue was built in 1996 and the purpleheart one a little earlier.

Although hard to see, the ivory oval conchos in the rings of the ebony cue each have 12 small points along the outer edge, and each has a red coral diamond in the middle.
The ivory that trims the turquoise pieces are each made of a single piece of ivory that completely goes stair-stepping around the cue, and is 1/64 of an inch thick.
Bill broke several of these "paper doll" one-piece inlays during construction. The same goes for the ivory in the joint protector!
Amazing in person.

I rarely post Josswest cue pictures so I thought I would share. I have a lot more that I will post
separately that I have owned a long time, and really like them, some being among the fanciest Bill Stroud ever built.
I have 20-25 that are fancier but I really like these......

These are amazing cues and match up really nicely with that Whitten case. These are my favorite Josswest cues that I have ever seen so far.
The word incredible isn't enough good to describe beautiness of them:smile::smile::smile:

Beautiful cues Will....Bill has done some super nice work over his career. Among too many today who buy and collect is WAY underrated but most makers know what a pioneer he was. The Concho cue is just one example of many that show the combination of artistry and machining expertise. He's one of my favorite makers and I can't believe I don't have one of his cues in my small collection... I'll have to work on that for sure.. I always did like "Study In Red" :)

Thanks for the nice comments. BTW, I owned the Study in Red for about 10 years, then it left the house as part of a big trade deal. The good news is that I have two other Josswests that are twins to the cue, except in entirely different wood and veneers. They are parked side by side.

Thanks for the comment! It is nice that Bill's work is known so well in Croatia! :)

Maybe one day one of the twins can a study of Tim's..

Exceptional, individualistic, creative...what else. These certainly stand out!

These are great cues Will. Congratulations. I dare someone to try a tribute to these :D

My best,
Phil

Will, the cues are stunning but I really have to compliment you on your photography skills. Beautiful pictures that really bring out the colors and details of the cue. Hope all is well!

Will, thanks for posting the pics. Very nice southwest themed cues and the Whitten cases are especially unique making the whole collection super classy.

That particular turquoise is mined only in North America making it as native as the cue designs. Dying to see more.

Damn Will those are some gorgeous cues. Thank You for taking the pictures and sharing them.

Wow

The Coral Cue is at first glance more of a Sacrifice Cue. That Cue riminds me of giant Squash Blossom necklace, Silver,Turquoise and Coral I gave to one of my sister in laws. Work of art.
Beautiful work and very imaginative.
Mayan inspired?
Nick :)

Nick,

I can see why you asked about Mayan inspiration, but no, mostly southwestern Native-American designs..... conchos, steps, coral/turq/silver materials, etc.

Bill Stroud first utilized a step design in the buttsleeve in a box cue he made for Jim Rempe ca1970-71 right after Rempe won a large east coast tournament.
I have owned the Rempe box cue with the step-design in the buttsleeve for over 20 years, Bill and Rempe drew the design on the back of a
bank statement(?) while sitting at a table at the tournament, Bill sent me a copy of the hand drawings for my files years ago.

We need good photos of the Rempe Box cue! One of my favorites!

I can't stop watching these cues:smile::smile::smile:
They have put me in a trance.
I am not sure, but I think I am kind of weak on Native American designed cues:smile:
I have seen many, many cues so far in my short life but can't say with certainty I've seen some that are more beautiful than these:smile::smile:
Between so many high end cues I had the opportunity to see these might be the nicest of them all:smile::smile::smile:
Thanks again for posting this treasure and for inspiring me and much others:smile:
