A couple SBE questions...

This is the first year I'll be able to attend the SBE, I have a couple questions I was hoping a veteran could answer...

1) I'm guessing there are many cuemakers big and small there, I have about 5 cues I'm looking to trade or sell and should bring them?

2) Are there any cuemakers there that will rewrap a cue on premise? I'd like to get a stacked leather wrap on my new Robert Harris, and would do it there vs. sending it to Rat or Tiger.

3) Do they run mini-tournaments or is it pretty much either playing in one of the tournaments or looking for action games?

Thanks for any help!

1) yes
2) yes
3) there are action tables at the expo. If you want action on 9 footers there is Markley billiards in Norristown, Drexeline Billiards in Drexel Hill, and where I play at Classic Billiards in Phoenixville.

Thanks Philly...

Appreciate the responses, any tips for a first timer? Definitely looking for some action while I'm there...

Enjoy the Expo

Ahhh I remember my first time. It was the 2nd one Allen had and the first one in Valley Forge. (The first one was in Jersey) I think it was in 1995 and I haven't missed one since. It was only on one level that year but I was still wide eyed as a kid on Christmas morning. Enjoy the Expo.

To expand on the very concise Philly's answers...

In addition to cue makers, there are many cue dealers, who are always looking to buy, sell and trade cues. Bring your cues.

In terms of a re-wrap, there are a number of people doing it. If you are looking for a Tiger stacked wrap, Tiger is there every year and I'm pretty sure they do them there.

They run minis all night long until people are too tired to stand up anymore.

1) Yes but he cool about it. If you sit down and open up your case and announce that you're selling, prepare to get escorted out. Selling to dealers or trading with booth vendors is perfectly acceptable. Asking discretely at the show won't get you in too much trouble

2) Tiger is normally there, and they have the equipment to stack wrap right there.

Coming to the Expo for the first time will be an exciting time. Pool and more pool pretty much 24 hours per day. Plenty of vendors and dealers to shop your cues to. Don't be in a big hurry and take the first offer. Tiger is there again and they always have the capability of doing your stack wrap. It makes for an educational time to just stand and watch as it is being done. It doesn't look as if Muellers will be there this year, so RAT cues may not be there either. My recollection is that he doesn't do the wraps on site.

From what I have seen the only minis open to everyone are during the Wednesday night warm-up event. The other minis are tied to the TAP Rally in the Valley and you have to be a TAP member to participate. Those do run to all hours of the night/early morning. There is plenty of action in the warm-up area, as high or as low as you wish to wager.

Classic Billiards is the closest room with 9 foot tables to the Expo (about 10 minutes away). Not only do they have pool tables, there is also a heated Gabriels billiard table and a 10' snooker table. As the evening wears on there are usually plenty of players for action at all levels. The tables are in great condition, plenty of room around each of them and the room is very nicely appointed and well kept.

Have fun

The TAP area has minis for tap players and then there are open minis which you can sign up at the Hopkins tournament booth. They usually start around Midnight. $20 entry, 9 ball, single elimination, capped at 8 players per mini I believe. Can't remember the race, but I think to 7.
