A cue to keep in the car?

I've kept an old McDermott on the floor of my back seat for yrs. What I do is wrap it in a silver sun reflecting dash protector and leave my windows slightly open. The cue is never hot or even warm when I get it out to play. Works in So. Calif or maybe I've been just lucky the last 3 yrs or so.

Had A Cuetec For The Same Thing. Threw It In The Trunk Of My Car So I Would Have A Cue If I Stopped Somewhere. I Live In Niagara Falls Buffalo Area. We Have 90 Degree Days And 10 Degree Days And It Was As Straight As It Could Be. Had It In There For Two Years. So I Guess Cuetec Would Be A Decent Choose.

graphite cue. my old graphite cue never warped but don't break
with it. ferrule will crack and a ***** to replace.

I'd tell you, but you don't have enough posts....

just kidding.

Contrary to popular belief, I've had a Cuetec that warped. And it was indoors.

Someone ought to pony up and do a year long experiment with, say, a $100 sneaky pete or something and leave it in their car year round. Report the warpage here.

Fred

I routinely leave my cues in the trunk, in a 4X8 soft vinyl, zippered, case.

I only had a shaft warp once, and it was easily straightened, and hasn't warped since.

Maybe my cues all have good wood (there must be 8 shafts in there) but nary a problem. Is my experience unusual? I doubt it.

A friend of mine keeps his McDermott Harley Davidson cue (pre-warp-warranty) in his car, has been doing so for about a decade with this cue. On of his shafts has a very minor (what some would call taper-) wobble the other is straight as an arrow. So imo saying that it will warp because you keep it in your car isn't correct. Anything can warp anywhere, but not everything will warp everywhere. Or something.

A possible alternative

Any suggestions on what kind of cue to buy for keeping in my car? I live in Honolulu, HI so I don't have to worry about the cold, only the heat.

I am looking for something that won't warp, and is cheap but still has at least a halfway decent hit to it. I want to be able to go shoot after work without having to stop at home first.

Brand or model would be really helpful. I have seen where people were talking about using a WalMart cue as a car cue but what type/brand?

Thanks

Nathan

One alternative you may want to consider--does your regular poolroom or bar have cue lockers or even a back room where the owner would be willing to store your cue (Assuming you trust the management)?

Actually, I would reccomend one of the present day Palmers I offer. I can not guarantee they stay straight, but the one on the wall in my buddies garage still is. I have had no complaints from the many I have sold.

I also reccomend you get a good foam core case and keep it wrapped in a towel.

Ribdoner, You mean like this? They are not cheap.
My Dymonwood is not for sale.

Looks like similiar material. Comes in many different colors and hues. I think it's primary use was in the boating industry.:)

ALEX BRICK built several break cues out of DYMONWOOD a while ago. As far as I know everyone that bought one is pleased.

Even a Cuetec will warp under extreme heat conditions, happened to a friend.

First ...

I don't really see why you need to leave a cue in the trunk that LONG.

Why can't you take your normal cue, and take it into work with you (controlled environment), and then take it with you after work to shoot some? Do you usually go home after playing Pool?

When I go play Pool, I go to play Pool, and rarely, if ever, have anything else planned for doing after I get done.

If, by chance, my cue ends up in my trunk, it is usually for no more than 2 hours maximum, and usually late afternoon or night.

Besides, when I play, I like to play my best, and it would bother me to play with a cue that wouldn't allow me to do that. I would just as soon as grab one off the rack.

And if you are a young guy: Quit going to the strip clubs after playing Pool. Don't you realize they are just a big hustle for your money? You have a better chance of getting laid with a repressed School Teacher!!! :D

While I think that is some sound advice, not all of us have normal 9-5 office type jobs. My vehicle is more of an office than the place I keep my desk and fax machine etc. I never know when my schedule will allow some time for pool, and if I get an hour two free, I don't want to waste half of that time going home to get a cue, and then returning the cue home before my next appointment. That is why I bought a relatively cheap sneaky to keep in the car. The one in there now is still straight, has been in the car for over 3 years, and I live in one of the hottest places in the US.
