With all of the negative threads about cue makers lately, I thought I'd share a good story.
One of my teammates has been playing with an old McDermott for over 20 years. He plays well with it but we always made fun of his "crappy" old cue. It really wasn't too bad except for the fact that the shafts were down to about 10MM.
This year he decided he would buy his first custom cue. We took him to all of the cue dealers booths on Sunday hoping to find him a good deal. He ended up with a very nice Andy Gilbert cue in the Drawman booth that Gian was offering a very fair deal on. Problem was my friend didn't have cash and Gian can't take credit cards, so no deal.
John suggested we go over to Andy's booth and talk to him about making a new cue. We talked to Andy and Vicky for a long time and when we were talking about design, we asked Andy to walk over to the Drawman booth to look at the one he liked.
When he heard why the deal wasn't done he offered to run the purchase through his credit card machine and he would give Gian the cash!
So my friend got a beautiful Andy Gilbert as his first custom cue, built a relationship with Andy and Vicky and couldn't be happier.
Gilbert Custom Cues got a few new fans for life this weekend.
