I just never saw it playing 9 ball,8 ball yes lots of players use it.
I'll have to try it.

It's probably just something you never paid attention to because it actually gets used quite a lot in the professional ranks. It tends to see lesser use from the amateurs in pool halls from my experience but is still fairly common.
