Well, since I've moved to a new town that doesnt have a pool hall, the closest place to me in Grand Rapids, Mi. So i went down there to Anazah Sands East, the one by Showgirls lol.

Anyways, So I'm in there for about 20mins and just practicing, and since it's been about a week since, I've hit some balls, I'm just trying to pot balls. Well this guy on the table next to me, asks if I want to shoot a game or two. I said sure, since I was getting kinda bored.

Of course he's like I know your good since I seen you shooting and stuff, lol which made me laugh and I told him I'm not that good. Anyways so he ask's what I want to play and said its your table and upto you, so we play 8ball.

He then says, what kinda rules do you wanna play? I said it didnt matter, and he gives me the whole you want bar rules or APA? I give him the sly whats APA lol.

And he goes oh, its kinda like bar rules, but you call your shot. I said sure lets play that. Basically we ended up playing bar rules, call your shot, combo's and even if a solid is going off a stripe. And scratches are behind the line too. Well after he loses X amount of games in a row, and I'm not even trying, he asks if I want play Bank the 8?

I tell him sure, and he gives me the rules, that you can come off a rail first and hit the 8ball and thats a bank or you can just bank it naturally. needless to say I won all of those games too.

Now the whole time he's drinking like a fish, and then we go back to playing the APA rules lol, and start to play for some small cash. a couple bucks a game. Well he loses the first couple games, and keeps on doing the double or nothing move.

Needless to say he ended up loosing 128$ lol, from the double or nothing moves.

I forgot to mention before we started to play the guy, tells me he's from Boston. Which I could tell from his accent. But when he told me that and then explain'd the rules of APA, I just wanted to bust out laughing. Plus the whole time, he's telling me that I am hustling him, yet he kept on playing lol.

Then he's like hey, if you have the time come back down before I leave, so we can play again. I told him I'd probably be around on Thursday, so we can play then. He was like COOL! I'll even bring my cue so I play better!

I bolted outa the place before he realized he was in a lose lose situation. But it was fun taking his money. Plus he paid for the table and drinks too, which I only had a couple Pepsi's

There are some out there that just like to donate , sometimes they actually think they can win , other times they do it for the learning experience.

careful, careful

I have also let someone feel that he was hustling me, asking all of the rules, etc., drank like a fish, and told him I'd come back the next day. The whole time I knew he thought he had a fish. I'd blow fifty or so, and then tell him I'd just gotten a commission check and jacked it up. The guy couldn't wait to get to the teller. And again. And again. The best hustle is when he doesn't realize he was hustled. Hey, Rodney Morris had me spotting him a game at one time. I would have sworn I was supposed to win that race.

Man, everytime I go to the sanz, the only guys asking me to play are guys out to robb me! lol. would be nice to find a fish once in awhile instead of being one. :D

Koop - Its my pleasure to lower your IQ! :D

Nineballnut- R u going to the Garage for the 8ball shootout saturday???????
Well I was at the EAST location and when I showed up there was 4 or 5 people there including the guy running the bar and front counter.
And yes, most guys at West are out to steal, expecially Houston if you know who he is.

But yes, the guy I played was a trip, he was litterally finishing 1 beer and getting another lol, and the way he explained the so called APA rules and stuff, you'd think he was straight up serious those were the rules.

And yes it was nice to find a Donor to my funds :)

Anyways, Nineballnut, if your going to the Garage, let me know, It would be nice to meet someone new from AZB.

I would be careful, man.. Out of towner, has established a pattern of going double or nothing.. Says he will be back tommorrow, explained a bunch of goofy rules.. Plus drinking like a fish..

You probably play pretty well, though. Just saying I wouldn't assume the guy is a fish just because he lost $130.00. If I was "working a room", I'd probably play it EXACTLY like this...

He might be a fish, but then again, he might not. It might pay to not double up past $50.00 a game if he comes back, or whatever you pain level is...

The double or nothing thing is what would make me worry. It is SO easy for him to come back the next night, double or nothing up to like $200.00 a game, and "get lucky" and win the game to get even. Then, you'd have to decide whether he can really play..

You're probably cool, and I'm probably too suspicious, though.. Good luck, man..

yeah, I know Houston. He beat up on my buddy pretty bad a couple of times. I won't be at the tournament. Can't get out of work. I have been trying to avoid going back to GR. Last time out I went off with a absolutely pathetic display of pool, couldn't get over it. Haven't played much since. If I pick the stick back up anytime soon, my friends and I will probably take another road trip down there and see what we can drum up. If nothing else I get to see a better level of pool than we get around here.

Sounds like he's a cool customer. there are a lot of guys like that. aren't you glad that some guy doesn't mind losing and willing to spend his money just to have someone play pool and have some drinks with him? I'd really like that kind of person than someone who sharks and barks after losing some games, sourgrapes and a freakin cheapskate I should say.

sometimes, I do that kind of generous deed just to have somebody play me, whether I win or lose. I'm happy with the result, atleast I got some action and enjoy the game with somebody than by my lonesome. shooting pool alone would be boring, don't you think? I think it would have been nice if you atleast show the guy some sort of gratitude rather than making fun of the person of what he was willing to give, and brag about your short exploits.

Speaking of Fishing, I knew some guy (a hustler) once who used to frequent a pool room where he would victimize some new unsuspecting faces. the area was a usually visited by newcomers so it was really easy pickings for him. He usually asks for massive spots and plays freakin weak that obviously those newcomers would take the bait.
those guys don't know what hit them before it even began. most of the frequent visitors there even got fed up with his antics. he usually quits when he's ahead and seldom plays a longer race format. because of this, the regulars conspired to invite/setup a virtually unknown shortstop and had that hustler baited to play a match he couldn't refuse, a handicap match heavily favoring him. basically, that hustler lost more dough that he could ever imagine, including his most cherished cue. after that, the hustler never came back to frequent that joint again, especially when people heard rumors about him losing his cue. guess that must have busted his ego. now, that's funny ! :D

Point I was makin'

That's the point I was making, Russ. The biggest scores are rarely set up in one night. I've "peppered" two or three poolrooms over a two or three day period in quite a few towns and went back to get paid off. "Sounds too good and easy." Lose $130, win $300. Always be on the watch. What happens if the guy asks you to bet $100 right out of the shoot? Are you going to shoot one barrel at him. Then he shows his stroke. Play again? "I lost over and over, 20 games or so. You gonna play one and quit?" You don't want to be put in this position. There are guys out there that just like to go "sailing" but rare. Drinking? Bring my cue? To me, those are signs. Risk only what you've won. Make him win it back the way you did. Who knows? He might be just be legit.

I'll say this, i was kinda leary about this guy, cuz, the last two or three games were kinda close, and I'd miss a ball and he'd run 2 or 3 of his last balls but miss on the 8ball lol.

But it was nice actually being able to score a fish for the nite. Usually I either get a 30-40$ score and then the person quits!

Neil, I should be at Anazeh west ( curlys place ) Thursday nite, probably after 11pm. I sent you a PM too. As for the action in GR being dried up? I always thought it was more of a action city than Holland was!

Although Q-stick depending on the nite fri-sun can be quite the money pool. Which alot of guys looking for a game.
