what wood combinations would you use?
what type of joint?
what type of pin?
ferrule?
shaft taper?
I'm not interested in eye candy, just a solid crisp hitting cue

I've never met an Ebony or Cocobolo Q I didn't love. BUT, if I had to pick the best playing wood it, would be BACOTE. FLAT FACED,3/8-10 screw, Ivory ferrule & BLACK HEART TAPER(which is close to that of Schon)...JER

Hmmmmm.....

Joint: Thin phenolic
Pin: Modified ACME (commonly refered to as: SW type)
Ferrule: Ivor-X
Shaft Taper: Stiffer modified "pro-taper"

Forearm/sleeve wood: Tight/Straight grained Dark Bocote
Handle wood: W/Wrap - Purpleheart
Handle wood: W/O Wrap - Nice hard Bird's Eye Maple or nice rosewood/bubinga variety.

That sounds like a good idea...
