A guy asks to play for $100...

Ask to play for 100...

Next time when they ask you to play for a 100.00 just tell them that you will play them for whatever they feel comfortable with. You might win something instead of nothing.

This guy doesn't get it, those kinds are all talk...I think pool folk call them "nits".

I had beaten the guy for 20 bucks on three different occasions and after the third time he said I keep forgetting who you are.
Couple months later I'm shooting and I beat him with no bet and I think he was hoping to show off in front of his friends when he asked me loudly if I want to play for 100 bucks. I immediately said yes and after several seconds of silence I asked, "Do you?!" He looks disappointed and said he would play for 20.
I responded with I see what you were hoping to do there. He ended up dodging the $20 game.
Just last night another guy asked if I would play straight pool race to 100 for $100 but then wanted no part of it when I pushed the issue. What do you say to these guys?

Have you tried just saying..."okay, I'll try a few that way"?
(you might have a good score?)
If a girl asks you at her door...."Would you like to come in for a drink?", do you REALLY think she's just being nice to you and would like to see you having a drink with her?"
Come on man, wake up, you still in high school at her parents' house or something?
Unreal.........:boring2:

Just do it...........

Just tell them you trained with the New Zealand Clam in the arts of TOE (Touch of Elbow) and CT_ (Center to Nothing because edges aren't real).

They'll be begging for weight.

Yes I tried saying that and then they backed out of any action. I believe they were hoping to knock me down a peg to make themselves appear braver than I, hoping I wasn't ready to bet that high.

I was asking what do you say to them after they have backed out. Hope this clears up your confusion.

The only thing I am 'confused' about is how to delete dumb double posting by me on this site
As for your dilemma, just shrug your shoulders and say....."well, I tried. Any of you guys want a beer on me?"

post up.....:D

If the $100 game took place would word spread throughout the village and cause the townsfolk, young and old alike, to come down to the pool hall to witness the spectacle?

If that doesn't work. Play his game. Try "no, how about $50". He gets his little piece of pride and can only follow with accepting or badgering you back up to $100. Otherwise it's him who looses the pride.

There isn't much to say to someone like that. To them $100 a game or set is unrealistic and they assume everyone will turn it down, They are just trying to high roll you to look good to his buddies. If anything is said it should be directed to the buddies so they pick on him.

get the money

Do you want the money, or a trophy, or an ego boost. Try buying something with
the last two mentioned. "that's way more than I'm comfortable with, and I'm sure
you know it. You must have heard how so and so beat me for three sets EVEN
when he got me to play for that much, I beat him every time before giving him the
8 for $10 or $20. Give me the 8 and I will play for $50. I've heard the higher the bet
the better you play. The 8 for $50 or the 7 for $100" . Enter partner. you go over
to talk. He's shaking his head saying in a loud voice if you're betting that much
I want no part of it. You take restroom break. Partner tells the guy give him the
8 and make him bet $200, I'll take 25% hands the guy $50. Now I'm not saying
that I have ever been a part of anything like this That I remember.

In an extremely loud voice I'd say something like "then why did you ask if I wanted to play for $100 dollars if you don't want to play - can you believe this guy? He asks if I want to play for $100 and then backs out when I agree" loud enough so everybody in the pool hall stops and pays attention.

That should bring an end to the bull****.

Unless the guy is a stranger, I already know where the guy is coming from and know his act. If I know the guy I always try to keep the player in his comfort zone with the bet. I would rather play him over and over for less then just a one time score that may even make him mad at me and we never play again. I would probably in fact decline the $100.00 bet and suggest we play for our usual $20.00
