A hard tip but not too hard?

They play just right for me. That's all I can say.
I like the hit of them.
I have 4 absolutely identical shafts and I rotate them every session.
I get them all re tipped at the same time. I do this about every 6 years or so.
I scuff the tip before every session with a good old Willards tip shaper.
Not much more is needed ever and of course I never have to worry about a layer separating.

KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid

Absolutely!!👍🏻💯

It's not hard to overlook what works for all the bells and whistles out there. Players always looking for the next best thing...

Sort of guilty as charged.
Tried a Predator CF shaft for a while.
Didn't like the taper at all. Didn't last long. Sold it at a loss of course.

That being said, having a cue built as we speak and it will come with a kielwood shaft. I gave the maker one of my shafts to duplicate it exactly to the kielwood being made. Taper is important to me. Haven't spoken about tips on it yet but it'll probably be a hard pressed Triangle.

I am too at the moment, My last one had kielwood. I didn't think it was all that. yours might be great! Different sound and much stiffer, than any i have used before. Gone with stranded one this time. And your right, the taper is so important.
Long pro taper with 12.65 at the tip. One thing i always do now, is stick with the same pin. That way, your not solely relying on One shaft to always work. Good luck with yours🙂
I might try some of those triangles, thanks.

Thanks. I use 12.25. Like a long taper too. Naturally low deflection people tell me. Don't know much about it but it works for me.
