A Legitimate Question

I have a Titlist Cue that I would like an honest opinion on.

When I hold the cue by it's shaft in my left hand with the butt off the ground, and I tap the butt with my foot, the cue seems to vibrate, almost like a tuning fork !

I can feel the vibration coming up through the shaft, it seem like the whole cue vibrates.

The cue does not have any, " Buzz sound ".

When the shaft is not attached and I tap the butt section alone from the top to bottom, it feels solid.

I've never noticed this in any other cue's that I have owned.

My question is:

Is this a good thing ?

Will it enhance the feel of the hit when I'm hitting the cue ball, as in more feel of the cue ?

I don't seem to notice any negative aspects when playing with the cue, the cue seems to have a nice hit.

What causes this vibration ?

Just wondering ????

Hi Tommy; I can only guess, but I suspect that the 2 surfaces of the shaft & the butt at the joint, are not mating PERFECTLY as a flat surfaces. Maybe they need to be resurfaced, in a lathe...JER

That seems like an easy fix. I have a great repair guy here in Michigan that I think could handle that job.

So the vibration is not a normal thing ?

Like I said, the cue does hit nice, I just never noticed this vibration in any other cues that I've owned.

So this fix would even improve the hit of the cue ?

I guess sometimes you have to really fine tune a cue :wink:

Without hearing your vibration I can't say if it is normal harmonics or somethign amiss. But my first guess is that the piloted insert going into the metal joint is barely touching on one side when screwed togther and when you tap the cue you are hearing the vibration between those two surfaces. Turning the pilot down a little and installing a small phenolic sleeve in the stainless joint would solve that problem.

The cue has a brass joint, when I tap the butt section when the cue is off the ground, I don't hear any sound, I just feel the vibration. It's almost like a musical Tuning Fork, very rapid vibration that dies down very quickly and evenly.

The process your talking about, is this something that a cue repair guy can handle ?

My guy studied under Dennis Dieckman here in Michigan and I'm really pleased with any work he has done for me.

Chris, my cue repair guy is Jimmy Proctor, he say's he does business with you. He's going to look at the cue.

If the facing doesn't repair the problem, there is a chance it could be a dry spot that the glue didn't bond.

Yeah he should be able to handle it if my guess on the problem is the correct cause. Sometimes buzzes just can't be gotten out and they really don't bother the playing of the cue, but the sound drives some people crazy.
