I notice some of the other stories have some issues with dates, no doubt some of mine too. The incidents or events in the stories weren't that big a deal when they happened, trying to remember the dates decades later . . .
Anyway, one of the places a lot of my old memories happened was a little bar by my house. Largely because of my usually twice nightly visits it developed into a pretty "known" action spot around town. Big money wasn't common but pretty nice seventies and early eighties scores weren't too hard to be found there.
The place was small and the two pool tables had the front door at the end of one and the back door near the end of the other table. Could make things a little drafty in the winter time. It was a cold breezy night but I shed clothes as fast as I could preferring to play in a t-shirt, with a denim work shirt over it only in the coolest weather. As usual as soon as I warmed up just a little from the outside cold I tossed my jacket on a nearby drinks table.
It was a quiet night and the action I was in on the pool table was the only entertainment. A few friends, other pool players, and a few strangers had drifted up and were standing around watching. There was a lightly dressed pretty tasty looking blond girl in the group. A wicked draft came through when both the front and back door opened so I didn't say anything when she helped herself to my jacket. I did keep a close eye on her though, she was a stranger and I was fond of that jacket!
After the pool was over I asked for my jacket back, the first she realized it was mine. Then I reached in the buttoned pockets that she hadn't had her hands in and transferred enough cash to buy a nice new car at the time to my pants pockets. I sometimes went days at a time using that jacket as a bank and there could be a pretty nice build-up of cash if I was having a good run. She and her date were both floored that she had been wearing thousands and didn't know it!
I had to go back to my summertime bank around town for the rest of that winter, my boots.
