A little bit modern, a little bit old school

Just about 2 years ago now I received this South West Satin cue from Laurie. It's the first and only South West I've ever played. At the time I received it I had been playing with carbon shafts for a little while and mostly stuck with them. Had Predator Revos and then later Jacoby Black v4. But I kept having this desire to play with my South West so I'd take it out for a spin on a weekend here and there but never to tournaments or league play. And, not surprisingly, I struggled a bit with not being used to the deflection.

But I couldn't shake the desire to play with it. So, now I've committed to putting in a little time playing this for everything and just seeing where it goes. After 2 weeks I'm already getting much more comfortable with it and I'm really enjoying it.

I decided to pair it with a BK 4 break cue that honestly breaks just as good as my BK Rush, fantastic budget break cue, and I kinda wanted to stick with wood shafts....but....

...the Air II jump cue was not up to par with modern carbon jump cues in my experience. It's not bad at all, but it doesn't jump as well. Luckily I was able to pick up this Wheat State Quantum Gen 2 jump cue second hand. I've wanted one of these since I learned about them because I love having the tapered section by the joint for dart stroke jumping (what I learned originally with a Jacoby jumper) combined with the longer extension setup for traditional stroke jumping.

All carried around in my beautiful King case.
