A little preview....

update

Here's a rough pic with scrim added. Not a lot of detail here, but hopefully you'll get the idea. Will add some more detailed pics when I receive the cue.

What do you all think about the scrim ?? Kind of fills it out a bit, huh, but still a very Native American feel. "Indian Sunset".....maybe ??

I like the scrim in the rings...I LIKE IT A LOT!!! (insert Jim Carey voice)

Monster cue Sean. It's going to need a matching case! :D

Jamie....your cue told me it's name is 'Puttin' on the Ritz'. :D

Lisa

Hmmmm...'Puttin' on the Ritz'? I like the concept, but would also like a shorter name. Any other suggestions? You seem to have a knack for this cue naming thing.

Wanted to give everyone an update with some pics.

Well, today was the day....a little care package containing a few cues arrived early today from Clever, MO. After opening the package, we were completely stunned. All I can say is that Vickie and Andy put a couple of real big smiles on our faces....Matt's and mine. They really outdid themselves.

Sorry for these lousy quality pics from my old camera but hopefully you all will get the idea. Tried to also show some of the curly in this piece of pink ivory and these amazing joint caps. Anyone attending the ICCS event in Houston next month can see them in person. They are truly a sight. Once again, thanks to Andy and Vickie !!

And thanks, Jamie. While not a matching case, this elephant hide Thomas will have to do for now. :)

Sean

I have been watching this thread but have been waiting for the finished cue to be added to the gallery.
All I can say is Awesome! Some very nice work and an incredible design.
Love it all.

So with this awesome example of work, is there any chance a hoppe can be freed up to make room for this beauty?

Enjoy,
Myron

Congrats.............

Sean, your cue sure turned out very nice. Andy's work continually gets better.

Enjoy...............

sean,,,,,

the pink ivory inlays in the grip are unexpected. they kinda look like the designs i've seen in jw's,,,southwest native american type. anyway, to me, they aren't remotely compatable with the rest of the cue design.

i don't know if the rings in the grip should be the same as those in the butt/nose. what bothers me is,,,,1 - their sameness or 2 - they're big and pop out too much or 3 - both. especially the butt/nose rings. from a scaling pov, they look too wide sandwiched in between the prongs as they are.

also, the -o-o-o- in the grip rings aren't particularly enhancing to me. ie,,they stick out too much ratherv than enhancing the look.

Thanks to everyone for their feedback. I've also gotten a lot privately.

And Milt, thank you for your thoughts. Can't say that I necessarily agree but certainly understand where you are coming from and what you are conveying about some of the elements.

Andy and I talked at length about the 0-0-0-0 rings and we really didn't know if they would work, but after he penciled them in and sent me a pic, I knew it was a go !! Afterwards we both talked again and agreed that they added some juice to the design and they helped bring in the dots at the base of the peacocks.....and they kind of made us think of things we'd seen before in Indian beading or quilt work. The heavy ivory bands at the top of the Chicago section of the points is something that, at first, honestly I wasn't thrilled about either when I first saw it. But it's really how he has settled into doing those style of points....sort of trademark-ish.....and they have definitely grown on me.

Here are a few more scans.

Thanks again, and please let me know your thoughts on the cue, publically or privately.

Another stunning cue by Andy!! You should be very proud of the cue, it works in every way. I would not want to change a single thing on it, and Andy will tell you I can be picky!

It was nice of you to put the pictures on AZ. A lot of people are enjoying a unique and wonderful cue!

Take good care of `Ole Thundercloud!!

See you soon,

Will :) :) :p :p ;) ;)

in general, my philosophy about inlays and designs on a cue are that they should be finely cut and small, which is probably why i love prewitt's work. 1...it looks nicer. and 2...scaling. with such little area to work with, large inlays or design tend to look ungainly. i could have seen, for instance, the o-o-o- being smaller. it think it's happening with the rings in between the prongs too,,,and especially because they're white and really pop.

Nice looking cue Sean. Really.

I do have one question for you and you may have addressed it above so if this question is repetitious, I apologize.

How come Andy inisists on keeping such a large gap between his points?

Aside from that, this cue is very pretty. Good luck with it.

Thanks, pharaoh. Andy's point depth on his 4 pointers is actually quite good and they do come closer together, but the way he does his handle connection....well, he does loose a little there at the base of the points. If he didn't do it that manner, and did it like some others do, you could see probably a half inch or so more and they would come closer together. But....I think he's settled on this as his basic 4-pointer look. He really likes this connection, which is bullet-proof....think about it, you never hear of buzzes or warpage problems there on Andy's cues. You sometimes do with other makers, even ones that have been around for 20+ years.

If you like points coming closer, he has options. He does a real nice 5-pointer, and with veneers they meet up nice at the bottom. Same with a 6-pointer, all tall. Also, it's not super-advertised and definitely low quantity, but Andy is also doing his own full splice construction now. And they meet up nicely and very crisp at the base of the points. I've attached a pic below....the bottom cue. **And before anybody asks, yes, it was handled with rock maple...that's why the ring is there, but he can do the traditonal full splice, without the handle and union.

That Gilbert can do anything....he's as CUSTOM of a cuemaker as you can ask for.
