A little suggestion on 10 ball

I am happy to see the game of 10 ball gaining so much popularity, I really believe the rules directed at minimizing the luck factor is truly what 9 ball should have been. Here in the CAYMAN ISLANDS we have a large Filipino population (relatively speaking)...and we had modified the 9 ball rules many years ago, that involved you having to name the pocket for each ball, and also, if you made a "fluke" shot your opponent can take the shot, or force you to shoot.

I suggest that manufactures redesign the ball sets to make 9 ball look like the other lowered numbered balls, and only the 10 ball retain the stripe. This will make the game look more original, and less like an after thought.

Then you have a rotation friendly rack of balls only....i say just make the ten on tv look a little diff and sell it aftermarket. Maybe throw some gold numbers on it or something. Remember they did something to that effect once with the 7 ball events in the past.

Speaking of ten ball... I'm new to hearing about it and VERY interested. To me it seems like a great concept. I have a rule question on it though since I plan on getting together with some friends this weekend to play. If a ball is "slopped" in to a different pocket than what is called, does the ball stay pocketed? And also, does the opponent get ball in hand or does he/she just get to take over at the table? Thanks

If the ball that has been called goes into a pocket other than the one called, play stops. The OB stays down (unless it is the 10 ball) and the incoming player has the option of accepting the table or having the 'shooter' shot again. No Foul.

Thanks Tom! I know after I ask this and then get an answer I will probably feel stupid... but... why would anybody let their opponent "shoot the shot over again" as opposed to accepting the table? Is it basically if the cue ball is hooked> Almost like a pushout in mid-game? If that's it, then I understand, and I actually think that is a pretty cool rule. :grin:
