A new game for Your Poll JAM!!

Ok here is a basic idea for a game that i have been thinking of. I know you all hate 9 ball, but it is not all bad. The difficulty lies in making shape on only 1 ball at a time with 7 balls in the way to start off (ball on break). Negative (IMHO): 9 on the snap ends it, the game gets easier as you go, to easy to run tables, etc.....etc.... Rotation!!!! errr sans exclamation marks. This games retarded because it punishes strong play in early parts of the game and it gets easier when you get to the higher point balls. My solution? A combination of the 2 games. 15 ball is what ill call it. Basicly all the balls are racked 1 up front, 2 and 3 on each corner, 5,10,15 racked in the middle spots. All balls played in rotation, same basic 9 ball rules as far as flukes go, push outs, etc. Here is the twist. No single ball wins the game for you. The 5,10, and 15 are 'game balls'. Each of them is worth 1 point. 2 points wins the game, simple as that. If 1 player gets the 5 and the 10 the balls are racked and its game over. Also you can still win the game on the break, just alot tougher. What do you guys think about this? I think its a great game. Let me know

That sounds like a good game, and the points are a nice little twist. :)

Jose Parica told me that he learned how to play pool by playing 15-ball rotation. So, when he came to the States, 9-ball rotation looked like a piece of cake. ;)

Hmmm - that does sound interesting. If you play a bit of it and have any recomendations or refinements it'd be nice to see them posted here.

Bump, does everyone think this game sucks? How come no responses? I thought it was fairly well balanced and easy to explain. The other game someone suggested was too complicated and had to many variations and rules that were different from regular pool games. If you are using rules that ESPN came up with for TV (missing balls a foul) you are headed in the wrong direction.

those are almost chicago rules except the money balls are 5 10 15 and 8, and one point for game, most balls pocketed per rack

Why not just play the whole rack with players getting a point for the 5,10,15 and then the person who gets 10 points (or whatever number) wins the match.

It would be easy to handicap too.

Yeah that might work too, but then your making it slightly more complicated. Good idea though. Can anyone think of any reasons why this game is not good? I'm looking for criticism here. I'm not under the illusion that my game is the replacement for 9 ball, i just think that it could be a good game to watch. Noone has any criticism yet.

I like this game for a ring game too. You could make it pay ball on the 5 10 and 15 or you could make it a race to points. Say 6 guys, race to 6 points. You run 2 racks (almost impossible) you win the pot. This game could be slightly modified to make it more speedy, i think there is alot of room to spot balls too... Maybe give the 3 and 7 or just the 7 to your opponent, any other ideas?

Somewhat similar is the APA 9-ball scoring system. Very simple each ball you pocket is 1 point except for the 9 which is 2. If you get an early 9 it is still only 2 points, the rack is over and anything on the table is "dead". That's a maximum of 10 points per rack. You play to a specfic point total like 14.1 and it is very easy to handicap or create a spot just by have 1 of the players getting x number of points on the wire.
It is a system I like. I see no reasons the pros couldn't use it successfully.
