Ronnie does come across like quite a character from his website, and from the accounts of people who have dealt with him. But all that falls away if he does make good cues (some people I know really like his cues, I haven't tried one myself), and there are other wildly eccentric custom cuemakers that people still love to buy cues from.
But there has been another cue maker from the same region as Ronnie going around saying that Ronnie doesn't make his own cues, and that he has hired local craftsmen to do the work for him (I'm not inclined to take the other cue maker's word without any evidence, as it is just an unsubstantiated rumour). Does anyone know if there's any truth to this?
There are a lot of very fancy cues coming out of the Philippines that look great but that no serious player would consider (as they don't hit so great), but Ronnie's cues seem to have a following even among serious players. I was wondering if anyone could shed light on this topic.
