So ... our HR department has decided that we are going to have a pool table in the office, and have asked for some input on what to get. They are looking for a home size (8ft) table. I think the budget is up to about $1000. We are in the NYC Tri-State area. If anyone has some idea on a table that would fit the bill, a good place to get it, and even one that would be suitable for me to practice on after hours, that'd be great :)

For $1,000 there is only so much you could get. A Walmart table new cost's around $1,000.

You could look for a used one and get a pool going around the office where people donate money for you to get a better quality one.

I have done tables in office's before her here Atlanta. And I wish I had a small little cubicle job everytime I go.

office play

I often buy/sell on the used table market. For a grand you should be easily able to pick up something cool for the office. Granted you are not gonna get a GC or a Diamond but $1000 can get you a fair used table

We had one in an office that I worked in once. I played one game, the VP made a comment along the lines of "How do you have the kind of time it takes to be so good at pool?" ...and I never played on it again.

Problem is, pool is one of the only things I know where the better you are, the less people respect you for it.

Cheers,
RC

Thanks for the suggestions.. I will be checking out some deals tomorrow. Most of the office already know I play a lot, and I'll just play the odd game or two for fun nothing more. Hopefully if I can get a decent one, it will be a great practice aid (especially since I live within walking distance of my office)

You lucky %#&!# ! :D

Hmm, any vacancies at your office ? Preferrably easy tasks, with lots of spare time and a good salary.

Not so.

I saw two different 8' pro GCs for $1000, granted they were in KC but you just have to look around.

Since I work at a pool table store we have a table set up to play on. However after moving tables all day you generally don't want to touch another one until you get some rest. But normally if I have a few minutes before we head out I'll throw a few balls and just shoot around some.

Here are a few tips about Office Tables. First off they will be destroyed. Quickly. However much of it can be prevented. Remove all baby powder and hand talc within a 10mile radius. When we recover (And often fix) office tables, if the white powder was cocaine you'd have enough to retire off of if you just swept half of it off.

Get some decent cues in there. Most offices seem to have junk walmart cues with no tips. It will also remove part of the massive amounts of excuses you hear people make when they miss.

And have a jar or some sort of container for a pool table maitnence fund. When we get called out to office tables Cushions are falling off, felt is destroyed and something is usually broken. The most companies will generally do is refelt the table. They do new cushions sometimes but only if balls are jumping off the table into the coffee machine.

And be prepared to have that table used against the office constantly. "If you don't do __________ We will get rid of that table". I've seen it before.

But do enjoy your table.

I am in the office equiptment service industry, I can't tell you how many offices I've gone that have a pool table.

Oh, it ain't all climate control and free coffee!

I often wish I got paid for driving around and building/ breaking down stuff.
KDMSU anyone;)

Valley bar box. 50cents a game, money, euipment and maintenance problem solved. Call a local vendor and have them install it and set you up with cues etc etc. Just like putting a Coke, Pepsi or Toms snack machine in the company break room. Get a key and open it up for Free Pool during company parties, etc etc. :)

Does not have to be a Valley, Diamond makes them also.

All I've got to say is that a pool table, a ping pong table, and a pinball machine were brought into a high flying high tech company I worked at. A year later I and most of the company were layed off. First time I was ever layed off and I worked at lots of high tech companies, coincidence? :D

P.S. Actually the the internet stock bubble burst in that time period and that's really why we were layed off. Imagine we had a product who's chief competitor was Google, sure death. I don't think anybody ever said "I'll 'Direct Hit' that and see what comes up". :D
