A question for the users

I have a question that I would like an opinion on.

I did a little research and this person had posted 3 times and they were all ads for his site. One of them was even a 'Hey I saw this cool site but want to know what you think about it' type post where he was talking about his own site.

My first thought was just to ban the user for life and move on, but I thought that maybe I was being to harsh.

Anyone have an opinion on something like this?

Mike

Maybe a Private Messege to the offender would help make your point. Maybe a . THREE STRIKES Rule before being banned for minor offences

Very clever Ross. And here I was wondering what chicken and waffles would taste like. But then in Chicago we had chitlin pizza. Never did get around to trying that.

Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles is famous here in Hollywood. It is walking distance from Hollywood Billiards and the place is packed from opening to closing. The rich and famous make special trips to this little hole-in-the-wall for their Chicken and Waffle fix.

For me, in the original example, the key is the trickery of saying "i just found this great site," when the site was really his and he was trying to get attention to it.

Blatant advertising doesn't bother me. It's the trickery.

(I've read that some companies pay people to go to coffee shops and bars and loudly talk about how great the company is- as if they were customers who made personal discoveries.)

I would prefer that the ruse is pointed out rather than deleted- it shows that the business and its representatives cannot be trusted.

I just scrolled through a few of the current threads and came up with the following ads either in the Avatar or the signatue. Some had ads in both.

www.hightowercues.com
Nielson's billiard supplies
Break Trainer
Classiccues
Predator
Roscoe's House of Chicken Waffles (What is this?)
www.breakrak.com
www.pooltablemagic.com
www.platinumbilliards.com

All of the above are just blatant ads.
Just like all the pool studs out there who say, "you want to play me? Okay. How much a set? No freebies.)

If it was me I wouldn't allow any of these ads unless they wanted to pay for them.

But that is me, I prefer to be paid for my services rather than give them away. You ae free to do as you please.

And you do know that all those pretty names and logos on race cars and race car driver's hats and suits pay mightly for the privilage of being there. And there are people in the industry who actually count how much face time a logo gets to the public.

Now that a certain pro is being sponsored by another sponsor I wonder how long before we start seeing new posters ask the question, "I am going to buy a new pool table - what do you think of ------ table?"

Actually you probably have the opportunity of forming a pretty good business in selling ads on your site via the Avatar and Signature. If they pay for them fine. If not, then we are better off without them.

I once rented a bench sign. I had to pay for prep plus so much a month, six month minimum.

And if someone wants to put a flyer in our magazine that is distributed to 2400 homes you have to supply the flyer and the charge is $125 per month for insertion. (That sure does sound high to me but every month we get a half dozen flyers in our magazine).

But you will never know unless you try.

I have to respond to this just as Chris Hightower did! Those of us that do advertise on this forum, also have posted not a few, but thousands of posts. Many of the people posting advertisments in their avatar are the same people that don't send you a bill when you read something that they posted in the "Ask the Cuemaker" section. A lot of the info posted about cue identification, cue repair, cue buying advice, warnings about ____, playing instruction...ALL ARE FREE ADVISE! No one is charging for this! Yes, we do hope that a little advertising will bring business our way! Do you have any idea how much time and effort many of these "business men/women" put into helping out the readers on this forum, FOR FREE!
Enough said!

jjinfla- Don't take my last post personally, just read the post and replied!
Mike- You're doing one hell of a job with this forum. Thanks for getting the server problem repaired. Keep up the good work! IMO, if all a member has to contribute to this forum is SPAM, then the member is not a member, just a visitor and should not be aloud to post! JMO!

Keep up the good work Mike!

Jake,
You are way off base. Nothing I post is just a "blatant" ad, usually I am answering a question or taking part in a thread. Would you like me to stop identifying cues for free? Just curious, Chris and Zack both have good points.
