A question on Ediquette.....

Har. You should have just handed him $2, and told him that you were staking him for his first match, and you get the cash if he wins. :P

Yeah!!! ...thats right!!! If I am on the table when your ready to start your $2 challenge matches, your just going to have to wait...;) :D

I'm sending you a PM, you nit! ;)

Two dollar a set 9 ball is not gambling even for a broke. The pool halls I have played in normally set the amount that is considered gambling and generally speaking if the people could lose about $100 we normally let someone take the table. If you had a match where you could pick up $100 or more, you would love to have the barbecue while the lamb is still in the vicinity. In some pool halls the amount might be more.

Some people so desperate to get a table will fake gambling but they are soon found out and then they are seldom ever given permission to take over a table.

$2 sets of 9 ball is not gambling nor is $2 -----9 ball, at least IMO.

If there is potential for a score to be made, leniency is sometimes granted but not mandatory but most of the time the "gambler" had better be able to win at least a hundred bucks.

Often, the "gamblers" will offer to pay for the table holder's time for giving up the table.

Warm Regards,

I was playing in my local pool room the other day....It was pretty busy, b/c out of the 20 tables there, they were all taken....anyways, so im about 35 minutes into playing, when one of the local guy that is pretty good, told me that he wanted my table to gamble on.....i was like, man i came here to practice. Ill probably be shooting here for another hour or so....he got all huffy puffy and told me that i wasnt showing a player of his "caliber" any respect, and that later down the line i wouldnt get any respect....is this true? should i have given up my table and gone home? I asked some of the other good players there, and they said that u shouldnt give your table up to someone who is going to play 2 dollar a set 9-ball. So did i do the right or wrong thing by not letting him have my table?

The Good Table Caveat

I've read a couple replies about local custom when "real" money is involved as opposed to monopoly money or $2 sets. If there is a prefered gaming table, then I can undeerstand being asked to give it up......ASKED.....Like I said before politeness earns respect and concessions. If you were asked to give up the table I think being comped for your table time is an appropriate gesture....

If the guy is a blowhard asshat then refer to my initial reply

Ask him for a huge spot, and when he starts complaining. Use the "player of his caliber" line back on him. Sounds like his pride will get in the way and he will bite. Take his money, and when he starts to say you cant beat him straight up, tell him. You dont care about winning you just want his $$$$ then never give him a chance to win it back. Unless he want to stay at the huge spot.

If there is decent action I will usually give up the table. If the other person wants just practice then they can go put themselves on the waiting list.

If he was playing sets for 2 bucks then he was probably trying to high-roll you with the whole 50-100 dollar offer. Next time he offers that game to you, get the 7 ball, double the bet, and drill his nuts.
