A return to tradition

Respectfully, just because someone is a pro does not qualify them as an equipment expert imho. If you checked all the nuances of their equipment you would find as many idiosyncrasies as players, heck I know and played with a few top level snooker pros, some of them before a match would throw bones, avoid all the cracks in the sidewalk and had tips on their cues that looked like an amanita muscaria mushrooms. So what works for one does not work for everyone that's for sure.

"Respectfully, just because someone is a pro does not qualify them as an equipment expert imho."

With equal and genuine respect, they are certainly experts on their OWN cues and just as certainly, no one else is.

We have been discussing how LD shafts feel to you and me and we are the only ones who can possibly know what we each feel.

My only point was that LD shafts cannot be said to be fundamentally inferior because so many pros use them. On the other hand, we could easily say, without fear of contradiction, that a cue made of tempered steel IS fundamentally inferior and point to the fact that not a single pro on the planet uses one.

I utterly respect your dislike for them. Lots of people share your view...pro and amateur alike. But a very significant percentage of pros and top roadies do use them. So, it seems to me that three things are correct.

1. That LD shafts have been subjected to credible scientific tests that shows that they tend to reduce squirt to a meaningful extent and
2. Numerous pros including World Champions use them to make their livings and many of them don't get endorsement money...or at least not enough convince them to sacrifice their careers playing an inferior cue...and that, therefore, they must obtain whatever feel and feedback they need.
3. That LD and conventional shafts feel different, but that there is no evidence that those feelings are better or worse...one vs. the other because such things as "feel" are entirely a matter of personal preferences.

Regards,
Jim

I actually never said I dislike the LD shafts, only that I am much happier with the traditional shaft and the feedback it is giving me that was seemingly missing from the LD shaft.
As far as I am aware the only top level snooker player that played or plays with a LD style cue is Peter Ebdon, not even sure if he is still using it. There may be others but it's rare. And if you have ever played that discipline you will understand the accuracy required over such distances and unforgiving pocket sizes.
I was using a LD snooker shaft for a while but again over time I found no improvement of my game, in fact I made more centuries without it. Often I would be getting unwanted english and struggled with positional play.
