A Runde era Schon?

Is there a reliable way to tell if a Schon is Runde era? I have a line on one that the guy claims to be about 25 years old. It's in very good condition with 4 black ebony points (no veneers), an ebony butt plate with 4 small maple(?) windows with split diamonds in each, and a black linen wrap. The forearm appears to be maple and stained brown. Sorry no pics.
 
Some of the schon folks may be more helpful, however heres my 2 pennys...The ones that seem to have more collectability have spliced points, meaning the points in the forearm are very sharp and, well, pointy. The new schon's or post Runde all have inlayed or slightly rounded points. There may be some Runde era schons that have inlayed points as well, but it's the ones with sharp points that bring more money. Hopefully this helps, and others will come forward with more and better info.
 
Okay call me stupid but when I Google Schon all I get is retailers and wholesalers but not the official Schon site. Do you have a link?

If it's really 25 years old, then it should be from one of the first few years Schons were made. If so, then it should have stitched rings at the joint. Look at the ring on the shaft: it should be black and have a dashed ring. Look closely at the black part of the ring and you should see that, instead of being smooth, there a lots of circular lines running around it, maybe a dozen or so, all parallel. And likewise for the ring on the forearm just below the shaft.

See the pic below, though the circles on the ring don't really show up (I've only got my cell camera with me). Also, as far as I know, all the first generation Schons had the same style of dashed-line inlays on the rings (this could be incorrect, though).

Thanks for the link Cornerman. I didn't see the cue there so maybe it's not as old as is being said or maybe it's a rarity.:confused: I will email Evan and maybe I'll have to get some pics of it for him to look at. Thanks everyone.
 
well maybe i caught evan on a bad day or my pic wasnt good enough, but i sent a pic of my schon to have it identified and he said it was a runde era cue, and it was a r-12 or 13, i forget now which. Well i got to looking thru the schon catalog on tates site and it was clearly not an r......it was an sp46. Point being dont take an email as a definitive answer.

An SP-46 is a 6 pt cue with a plain butt sleeve, an R-12 and R-13 are both 4 point cues with veneered windows in the butt sleeve, I highly doubt Evan would mistake an SP-46 for either of those cues

well my cue is a 6 pointed cue with ringwork and looks EXACTLY like the sp46 on the schon catalog for 1991.......and heres a copy of the email Evan sent me

The cue is and R7 and is made from maple and ebony…Evan Clarke


and my cue has no ebony in it, unless they had some very light brown ebony back in 1991.......so you figure it out.
